Covid is really screwing up gaming.

Sony has announced that the latest entry in the PlayStation-exclusive racing sim franchise, Gran Turismo 7 is now planned for a release next year, after pandemic-related production issues.

In a statement provided to GQ and confirmed to IGN, a Sony spokesperson wrote: “GT7 has been impacted by Covid-related production challenges and therefore will shift from 2021 to 2022. With the ongoing pandemic, it’s a dynamic and changing situation and some critical aspects of game production have been slowed over the past several months. We’ll share more specifics on GT7’s release date when available.”

I know Mook Mook has expressed this as well, but I’m really craving the return of structure/progression in a racing game. Like the early GTs racing shitboxes and gathering money and licenses to upgrade and buy faster cars. Gran Turismo was really the only reason I stayed in the PlayStation franchise for so long before ditching it after seeing how they weren’t dedicated to a full game.

100%! I miss the days of working your way up. I believe Forza has rumored that is the plan for the next game.

I was getting a little put-off with GT6, then got the PS4 for GT Sport (which was delayed, surprise!) and saw the reviews and the changed gameplay and passed on it. Think the only thing I've played on my PS4 was the first Battlefront (it's a Battlefront edition), and the first Division.

Haven't turned it on in over a year. It's not even plugged in anymore.

I think those days are over. The younger generation wants instant gratification. They want the Bugatti to start with.

That would be going back to the get-go. While they are at it, get rid of the stupid ass perks system. Here, you won this random card, now you can have 3% better braking at Tsuzuka.

I have fond memories of Forza 1.

I bought a PS4 to play whatever version of GT that it was supposed to support, since I had been playing since the OG GT. That last version was so disappointing I stopped playing with the PS4 altogether. Don't think I have turned on the device in a good two years. It's not even plugged in.

They'll have to do some remarkable stuff to get my interest back.

My 9 year old daughter started playing Gran Turismo again on my PS4. Kind of fun to watch her learn. I'll end up getting a PS5 for her, and then a couple games for myself.

GT7 Ps5 Exclusive Features

In the new developer diary, which you can view below, Polyphony Digital CEO Kazunori Yamauchi discusses some of the features that are exclusive to the PS5 version of the cross-gen racing game.

“I personally feel that we’ve finally achieved a level of realism that’s kind of tangible,” he claims, before going on to explain how the DualSense controller’s adaptive triggers are used to recreate the feel of car brakes.

“For example, when brakes are effective to a certain point and they lock up, the resistance on the trigger is cancelled.”

Yamauchi adds: “4K, 60fps and HDR are also things that make the game more realistic. When I get to drive on the tracks, I really feel like the realism has exceeded a certain level, and that’s always very striking. The kind of natural feeling that we’ve been trying to achieve in Gran Turismo from the start.”
