I don't know I have enough height in our basement. It would have been another $5k to get the deep pour basement. I'll have to go down and see if I can swing a club, like not. Or I can get one for the garage and pray one doesn't ever make it past the net.

For the price I thought Iā€™d tryout Kirklands new wedge set. Pretty hard to beat as far as pricing goes. Iā€™ve read some good reviews on them on a couple of golf forums so I figured why not. They look great, feel pretty good and didnā€™t break the bank by a far margin. I replaced the grips last night and I will try them out on the course today in a few hours. It should be fun.

Rick Sheils has some good things to say about these. Also, a great channel for reviews and instruction

I was just telling my wife the other day we should get into golf. Start off driving at TopGolf or something and eventually work our way to a course. Especially out here. Problem is, my eye sight is so bad, I'd lose the ball and that's if I am even able to hit it.

Srixon has a buy 2 get one free deal on balls. I just stocked up on Z-Star XVs. They are comparable to a Pro V1x. Comes out to under $27 per dozen if you buy 3 boxes.

I dont mind Kirkland golf balls either

Iā€™ve been using Kirland balls for a few years now. I like them over all. I also like Volvik golf balls. I think over all I hit the Volviks a bit straighter and a bit farther. But for the price of Kirkland balls itā€™s hard to pass up.

Iā€™ve been watching his Instagram account for a while now. I did not know about Rick Sheils YouTube channel. Good to know.

I must say I did like the clubs today. I hit some pretty good shots with the Kirkland wedges. With the face of the clubs having an ever so slight rough surface along with some nice grooves. I really got quite a bit of spin on the ball. Was able to make the ball come to a nice stop on the green. Overall the clubs felt really good and well worth the money. It sure felt like I was looking at and swinging wedges that cost $170 apiece. Great bargain for anyone looking to upgrade to a better standard wedge without spending a lot of money and not caring about fancy bounces and stuff.

I was playing Callaway Supersofts for the first half of the season. For being such a soft ball, spin around the greens is non-existent. Now I just use them in cold weather when I need something with lower compression.

A couple weeks ago I finally played the Ravines (course 2) at Cog Hill for my first time. Not sure why I waited this long. I've played courses 1 and 3 a bunch of times. The Ravines is probably my new favorite local course. With the exception of holes 1-3 and hole 18 being pretty boring, the rest of the layout is really fun. There is some good elevation change and it's a really old course, so the trees can be brutal if you're not hitting it straight. It was a really scenic fall round.

Here's a look from the tee box of #9. It's a dog leg right with a water hazard that comes into play on the right side. The fairway bunker is about 220 yards out. The safe play is an iron off of the tee, or you have to hit a a gentle fade with a driver to keep the ball in play.

I forgot to ask/mention.

Have any of you here who play golf ever heard of or played at a golf course named The Bourne Golf Cub? Iā€™ve played it twice. It located out west off of Route 71 past Norway Illinois near where that airplane carcass is on the side of 71. The Bourne has crazy fun elevation changes and tee boxes as high as the heavens. Weird doglegs and a particular narrow par 3 that has an iddy bitty green that is a challenge. Crazy cool in a video game kind of fun way. The kind of course where you go for fun and not shooting your lowest score of the season. Itā€™s only $45 with a cart. Walking the course is not allowed due to how spread out the course is and also the extreme elevations. The first time out it took me 5.5 hours to play and we were cruising along not waiting for anyone. My daughter and I played it a few weeks ago in just under 5 hours. But people were letting her and I pass them up.

Well worth the money and fun. Lots of fun.

The only pic I have. You canā€™t tell but this tee box is probably just over 100ā€™ higher than the fairway below.

I've heard it's a ton of fun and been meaning to play it, just never got around to it. I love teeing off from super elevated launch pads!

Another fun course that I just learned about this year is Downer's Grove golf club. It's only a 9 hole municipal course, but it's beautifully maintained and has some history.

It was the original home of the Chicago Golf Club and it was the first 18 hole course in the United States. A few years after it opened, the Chicago Golf Club moved to it's current location in Wheaton. The original location stayed open as a public course. At some point it was downsized into a 9 hole course, but a few of the original holes are still in play. Really fun layout. Not super difficult, but some challenges due to mature trees lining the fairways on a few holes. Some good elevation changes too.

It's near my office, so it's perfect to get a quick 9 holes in after work.

I used to play there all the time, im a straight shot there off 71. Its actually an awesome course that you'd never suspect driving in to get there. Great scenery and fairly difficult. The best times to play there are late spring and fall when there's leaves on the trees.

Golf season can't get here soon enough. I have a feeling the courses are going to be packed in April and May. It's been a long winter and there are a lot of new golfers.

I want to get to the range within the next week or two and start dusting off the cobwebs. I bought new wedges and fairway woods over the winter and want to try them out.
