It pisses me off to no end when road construction is done during rush hour traffic.
This morning Rt. 20 was down to one lane from McLean to Shales.
Why can't they do this work during the overnight hours when traffic is substantially less? Why do they need to do this during the heaviest traffic times of the day? Why not work 10pm-6am?

Road widening/maintenance almost always get permits to work whenever they want to “speed up completion”. Not saying anything is don’t faster. Maybe they’re just trying to beat the heat?

Was there any forewarning to the lane reduction, like something posted yesterday? Probably not, cause they're dicks.

None that I saw. There may have been but traffic was so backed up well before the actual lane closure.
I would have zero surprise if there was. They love doing that shit, closing down lanes without notification. Last year on my way to work there were two roads under construction, and you never knew if both lanes would be open, or if they would have it down to a single lane. Was a total crap shoot, so you couldn't plan on which way to go. I had a back way that if it was single lane, the back way was faster though a few extra miles. If both lanes were open the back way would add another 10 minutes and more lights.

Maybe because then people would bitch about the noise, and how they cant sleep.
Depends on how close to residential they are. Carol Stream was redoing Lies Rd east of Gary and were using the heavy rollers/vibrators to smooth out the top layer. I'm about two miles from there and I could hear the rumbling all night long. Eventually enough residents complained and they had to switch to day time.

I back up to County Farm Rd. They just redid it. They were told they couldn't start till 7am because of village noise ordinance and basically all the houses that back up to the road. That didn't stop the assholes from showing up at 6am and prepping, which included all kinds of machinery being banged around to wake people up.

this was yesterday.
7:30 am My kid ran up to me to give me a hug, spilled about 32oz of water across my laptop. (fixed by taking the cover off, blew out water with air compressor, hit it with the hairdryer)
turned the laptop on, check email and see that one of my employees has gone over my head to a different department head trying to get paid for expenses that weren't approved and were for something he shouldn't be doing after i told him we wouldn't have to cover it. Petulant child!
After that i had to let go of a different employee for deceptive/fraudulent sales.
it was a pretty shity day that i said Fuck many times.

Okay, that's pretty interesting. Sprinkle it with some powdered pepper, like cayenne pepper or chili pepper. That should keep the critters away.

At least they didn't leave a steaming pile of crap on your hood....

Yup.

And this frustrated me too. I tried to take it yesterday morning to see which way to get here to the new job was quicker. As soon as I got on at McLean, strolled down 20, it backed up due to this. I was like "motherfucker..." So I got off at 31 and snaked back down to Stearns.

And no warning.

That sucks. Time for an expensive new one.
That’s why I have one of these in whichever car I drive. Jumper cables are nice, but if you’re by yourself they are only good for jumping rope.

Anker Roav Jump Starter Pro 1000A, 12800mAh, 12V Portable Car Jump Starter (Gas Engines up to 6.0L, Diesel up to 4.0L), Battery and Phone Charger with 3 USB Ports, SOS LED, and Jumper Cables https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07NPL6MJP/?tag=tcg21-20

I've got jump packs in each of my cars. There's so many of them out there now and you can get some pretty good deals there's no reason not to. I used one of mine jump start our box truck at work one time, which has a dual battery setup. Started melting the cables a little bit and there was some smoke, but it worked!! So if it can start one of those, my cars should be just fine.
