I played hockey last night for the first time since early March. I haven't done much cardio since the gyms closed, so it was rough lol. It wasn't as bad as I expected it to be though. It felt good to get some real exercise for the first time in awhile. I'm definitely feeling it today.

Hahahaha I played twice since things shut down and I wasn't too bad. I am interested to see how much better my cardio has gotten because I have been biking a shit ton. My cardio was good before, but it should be on point right now. The 2 times I have played I biked 40 & 30 miles earlier in the day, so I couldn't accurately gauge it. Next time I skate I'm not going to do shit all day in order to see.

Shoes are key as mentioned below. About 6-7yrs ago, my Wife and I were running 5 days a week with Saturdays being long runs. We would do anywhere from 10-13 miles every Saturday on the Forest Preserve path, so big hills included. I started while still smoking and would run a block or 2, then quit smoking and within a couple months was running timed 5k's. Always finished 2nd or 3rd for my age category, never took 1st. Then challenged myself to make it 5 miles, 7 miles, 10 miles and finally a half. It was 100% mental imo, once you can run 5 miles straight, you should be able to run 10 miles. I just ran out of challenges as I had no desire to run a full marathon and then running got very boring for me. Thats when I started lifting. Also even with the correct shoes, running outside does take its toll on your knees. I blame that for my right knee being as bad as it is now.
wow had no idea you were into running like that. What pace were you able to keep?

All depended on the weather. Hot/humid days we would run slower, cool fall/spring mornings we would be quicker.
Longer 10-13 mile runs usually 9:30-10 minute miles, 3-7 mile runs 9-9:30 minute miles.
Timed 5k's a hair over 8 minute miles. 99% of the time I'd finish sub 24:30, best ever was right around 23:50 but was almost 100% flat land.
My Wife on the timed 5k's usually came in under 27 minutes

If you want to get serious go to Dick Ponds in Schaumburg, they will have you jog on a treadmill. Then analyze your steps and tell you what shoe works best. Its 100% free and you dont even have to buy the shoe from them. Shoes as mentioned before make all the difference in the world.

Fixed, I couldnt do those numbers anymore. I was about 65lbs lighter when I was running like that.
Now when we go out, my Wife can still run 5-7 miles with no problem. I will do it as well, but run a mile, walk between 1/2-1 mile, then run another etc.
I'm still sub 10 min miles on the miles we run when we do that

For a bigger dude though, I'm in pretty good shape. I play in 2 separate softball leagues (between 2-4 games a week) pretty much 6 months out of the year for the last 20 years. Non softball season, I play basketball 2-3 days a week for 60-90 minutes each time including full court against kids half my age. Was talking with my guys that I hoop with and play softball with. Its almost time we join old timers leagues lol

Hit a quicker bike run, got home and did a small 30 minute workout, now Iā€™m in the sauna. While in the sauna got asked to play hockey at 8:50. Going to be exhausted this evening ?

Well boys, only took me 3 chest days to get back up to 315lbs. Worked up to 315lbs and did 3 sets of 3, I really believe I had 3 sets of 5 in me but no spotter. For some reason 315 felt light today. Hoping to hit 365lbs within 6 weeks
Fuck yeah dude.

cant wait to see how much of a pussy I am when I get back under a bar. Basically havenā€™t used weights in 6-7mos now.
