I totally get it. I wish they had not sured the name Mustang for it. But also admit it was probably a good idea on their part.




I also liked some of the 4 door Mustang concept drawings over the years. I hate to admit I would be ok with a 4 door version as well. Although so many would argue a Mustang is a 2 door sports car. I try to be flexible. haha

Good job.

Honestly, I don’t think it’s a bad strategy. Performance EVs are the only EVs selling in any real quantity (Tesla). At the moment, it honestly doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to buy one for any other reason.

Because more efficient ICE options exist?

EVs aren’t very close to being affordable for the masses. They’re more expensive than a comparable sized/performance ICE car, so from a frugality standpoint it won’t pay off in a reasonable amount of time. Or ever. Electricity isn’t free (though early on it was at many charge spots), and to get the most you need home charging equipment or infrastructure, also not free unless incentivized by the automaker. For lower range cars, you don’t have much flexibility to put a lot of miles on to make up the cost between gas.

Also, to get the max benefit of the tax credit, you need to make a minimum amount to have enough tax liability to benefit from, so the incentive isn’t for everyone. It favors wealthier buyers.

So, you buy an EV to make a social statement, or for performance/luxury. And that’s fine. Electric cars are a riot to drive. Where else are you going to do 0-60 mph in sub-3 seconds with no detriment to daily livability? But until performance and luxury EVs drive the cost down then you won’t see many other automakers introducing 50-state frugal EVs in the US- there’s such a limited market for those here. They’ll be performance or luxury cars.
