It looks like an SUV with Mustang styling inspiration. It's also a common SUV profile that is not exclusive to Tesla.
Ok, so we’ve gone from they look nothing alike to “of course they look alike, that’s how all of those SUVs look”. How about the specs for performance and price being almost identical to model Y and nothing at all like bolt, leaf, and focus ?

Eh, I mean, if we are trying to say that, well.

Design styling on Model Y is very similar to other cars as well that were out well before the Y was even in exisistence.

Every major car manufacturer has been doing this for years upon years.

Ford is most likely intending on making this a direct competitor to the Model Y as the Tesla is the entry level SUV as well as the Mach-E for Ford being the first SUV of it's kind for Ford.

The basic profile looks similar, but the styling/design look nothing alike.

The bolt & leaf are compact cars. This is an SUV, so hence why they don't look alike.

That’s my whole point. I want really even commenting on the design, jason05gt jason05gt is the one who said they don’t look anything alike. My comment was on how ridiculous that article was to state that ford took inspiration from those stupid clown car EVs and came up with the Mach-e when clearly it is a direct competitor to the model Y. To be clear, I think ford did a fantastic job- if the pricing, performance, and range estimations stay accurate. Remember however that they are more or less buying off the shelf parts (batteries, motors, controllers) so for them to have a Tesla-like performance and capability right out of the box would be amazing. We can of course argue about the body fit and finish on tesla, but nobody in the industry comes close to having the same amount of tech and refinement in the powertrain.

But in the article, it also states "But engineers and designers weren't told to benchmark the vehicles. "

Probably shitty journalism. But back to my original point, the styling of the Mach E is vastly different than the Model Y. The Tesla has more subdued lines and a shorter front overhang for example. The Mustang definitely looks more athletic and sporty.

Well, I sure hope they don't copy Tesla when making an electric pickup truck!

I think the name is the only thing really "wrong" with it. I think it looks awesome and better than what Tesla is offering...

Agreed 100%.

If they would have used a different name than Mustang I think there would have been a lot less "bad" press about it.

I think it looks great and is a good step in the right direction for Ford, just not a fan of the Mustang tag on it.

I hate they used the name, but I agree it was probably a smart move by them. They can split the Mustang off into a performance brand and offer several models. And I am ok with that.

If I buy one, I'll de-badge it and just tell people I own a Mach-E. lol

It the mileage doesn't fall way short, the initial quality is good, and in-home fast chargers are affordable (and/or included in the financing minus install), I can see this selling very well. I feel unlike a Tesla owner that has good finances, many Mach-E owners are going to be stretching to get into one of these. So make it so buyers almost get a package deal price to get in one. If Ford can eliminate most of the worries of a first time EV buyer, it will be easier to sell more of them.

I’ve said it from the beginning this is an amazing first offer in for a real EV for any company. My only doubt is that they will not be able to produce as many as they think they will and I have a feeling the EPA mileage isn’t going to be what they Are estimating.

I don't think this is their first real EV? Focus came in all electric, maybe more too... Or did you mean EV only?
