Not sure whats going on here. But only thing I can gather is your buddy needs more hp, he's getting bitched on out there

this is from a track day. you are not allowed to pass at almost anyone's track day except on the straights, and with someone giving you a signal, a point out the door to pass on the left, or a point up and over the car to pass on the right (which this guy does at the end of the video).

the proper thing to do, particularly when having a massive amount more power, is also to lay off the gas to let the person pass you. this guy just guns it after he even gives the signal.

not letting someone pass is a douchebag move, because this person has a huge ego and can't let the lower power car possibly pass them. it's something you get yelled at and something newbies do most often, after newbies it's dicks in intermediate, and by the time you are driving in an advanced class, usually nobody is an asshole about it.

my buddy is definitely driving in an advanced class here, and the porsche is just being a total dick. my buddy is in a s2k and the porsche clearly has no idea what he is doing since the s2k has to get off the gas and go easy to avoid just straight crashing into the ass end of the porsche. he shouldn't be able to get anywhere near this car. the porsche owner should probably be in novice, because he is being a dick not following the rules, and he apparently has no idea how to brake or turn on a race track.

here is a guy doing something similar in front of me. what you are supposed to do if someone is being a shit is to come in the pit, get space, then go back out again. but 1. you may catch the person again and 2. the shithead doesn't learn then (organizer may still yell at them if you bring it up)

so more likely is that people will ride someone's ass. the problem with that is you are both more likely to make a mistake, ie. the guy in front feels pressure the more i sit right behind him, i get fixated on a target and am more likely to screw up my normal driving, also he may make a mistake and with the fixation i just mirror him and do the same thing, etc. so if you do this you are balancing trying to pressure someone being a dick while also not putting yourself at too much more risk of hitting them. ideal scenario is they just fuck up and you get by them and hopefully the next time they are in a similar situation they don't be an asshole.

light not metered well but you can see this guy spin out in front of me and off the track

This seems like nothing I would want to be apart of. I made it a purpose to cut people off on a certain road cause I knew they were going to basically dead stop to cross a set of tracks where as I just flew over them..

No way would I let someone lower power pass me just to ride their ass and feel throttled.

the porsche wouldn't be throttled - if he was actually faster, then how did he get caught on a closed loop? if a miata catches a ferrari, there is no other explanation other than the miata is faster - at least at the hands of who is driving each car.

if the porsche let him by, he would actually have to lay off the gas on a straight on 0-2 straights at most. after that my buddy would just be slowly pulling away from him, and the porsche would never get close enough to have to slow down for him. maybe chasing him the porsche would actually learn how to drive a little better as well.

That kind of thing used to drive me nuts back when I raced. The best thing to do is just to pit to get some space and then get back out there. It's not worth getting too aggravated about.

The new BMW owners were sometimes the worst since they didn't expect some lowly Ford Mustang to come up behind them and stomp their M3.

I don't think it's a "I won't let him pass because it's a mustang" thing. If it is, whoever thinks like that should get punched in the face. What happens is, the people are just focused on the track and what's in front of them. They don't use their mirrors and have no idea people are stuck behind them. Sure, pitting gets you away from them, but doesn't solve the problem. You either go up and talk to the person or tell the track people about it and let them talk to the person. You will find that people are actually extremely understanding when you talk to them or have the track talk to them.

i actually really enjoy going with the bmw club. they have a lot of really good instructors. and as far as track etiquette like this, it is overall at least as good if not better than running with other organizations.

front car being a dick can be anything from 150 to 550 hp. although you will most often see this with bigger power vs. tiny to be sure.

i think this is at best 25% of the time that people are just 'distracted' by what is in front of them - which shouldn't be the case in intermediate or definitely advanced anyway. 1 or 2 turns ok. full laps? in advanced? 1% this person didn't notice you, 99% they are just being a douchebag.

This has never happened to me. Most people are pointing out their window 2 corners before I get to them

you have enough more power to rocket towards someone so i'm sure people are getting ready to give you the point even before you're ready to take it!

Was wondering who would catch my sarcasm [emoji23]. It is actually funny to see them preparing for it though, and it still amazes me how quickly I close gaps with this beast.

Everyone in Laps does a great job of track awareness , I think only once did I catch a train of 7 cars forming a train, and thanks to one of us it was red flagged so that ended quickly. But I was ready to pull in and give them time to get away

That would be me.. lol. The number of times people refuse to let my car pass them though is annoying. I usually have to ride their bumper for a while before they get it. Most people just look back on the straights and see me disappearing and don't see me on their bumper through the turns/braking zone.

I think my record was 15 laps in our lemons rx7 behind a v8 camero. Guy took up all the lanes and I didn't want to really be side by side with the car in a turn. I just didn't want to risk a sketchy pass as we were down on power. And I wasn't going to win that race in those 40 minutes. So I just backed off and conserved fuel and waited for him to screw up.

LOL yup they can def be dicks... even if you're also in a Porsche!

Check this one out - from a few weeks ago.... dick gives me a point at 0:20, then again at 0:30.... but stays flat WOT the entire run. My little 3.4 did pretty OK against his fancy new 3.8L.... but I ultimately stuck it to him in the braking zone

This is the "black" group with PCA - the fastest group.

I sent a lengthy email to leadership with this (and a few other) videos of this SAME guy. He was a rolling roadblock - literally blocking, running down the middle, etc.

Their response was, paraphrasing - Yeah, we're well aware of him. Problem is, if we bust him down a group or two, where the other drivers have even less situational awareness, he will be just as big a hazzard, if not more, there.

that's annoying. one of the things i like about bmw is that i know the club would climb on his back for this and take actions to address the behavior - or simply stop letting him attend.

DE's with point rules are annoying anyways.

I haven't run into this issue with LAPS. I generally prefer running with them, or David Murry anyways. Open track, open passing, just don't be stupid.
