The rain came down HARD Tuesday night. Water started to come into the crawl. Had 4 pumps going. I want to say the river rose 6 to 8 inches in a few hours. I thought this would be it and the next river forecast I seen would be worse than last July.

Woke up in the morning. Crawl was bone dry. River went down a few inches and the forecast predicted no rise.

LFRB calling for the heads of DNR employees for not managing the river good enough.

 Call for their heads for being stupid fucks.

yes the lakes are flooded

the lrfb page makes me never want to boat down there ever.

those people blow donkey dick.

as i posted above, the area has gotten 400% of the average rainfall for the past month... four. hundred. percent.

crystal lake in the one map for the last month has 15-18 inches of rain

1 inch rain = ~12" of snow.

bruh

We'd be BURIED. Day After Tomorrow can happen any time now.

God damn river is dropping slow. I can see my lower pier again but the water is still in my yard. My upper pump has stopped pumping but my lower still pumps once in a while at this level. I just want it to stop so I don't have to worry about my lower level flooding if it takes a shit. The pump in my crawl was dead when I went to test it before the flood. I just replaced the thing during the flood last July. Piece of shit made in China .

can you build a berm? would that help at all somehow someway or does it all just come up through the ground

I want to add to my rip rap when everything goes down. If I can make that a higher that would help out a ton when the water rise to this level again. I really hate the dead grass. But I should have minimal this time around.

I think it just comes up from the ground as the water table rises. The previous owners had a engineer at my house to look at the lower level and what then can do to prevent water issues. The guy told them to fill in the basement and the crawl. My house shouldn't have a lower level. Not like it fills up like a pool every time the river floods. I didn't get any water inside my lower level this time but some came into the crawl when it was raining hard. Pumps seem to keep everything under control. My neighbor across the street from me is probably a few hundred feet from the river and has a full basement. He said he has 3 sump pumps that run all the time trying to keep water out regardless of flooding on river.

I was up on the Lakes Saturday. IDK to me the levels looked normal. Lower River was still in my yard and just below my lower pier when they opened it back to boating. Its bullshit they opened but I figured that would happen. Good news it seemed lower dropped more yesterday than it did the past week. I want to guess they closed some or all gates on the McHenry dam to slow the flow and let the lower drain more. Hopefully they don't drain it all out. They will probably open for the weekend. Saw some boats on the lower Saturday none were really going at a true no wake pace. Kinda between no wake and plowing.

I was emailing with the FWA a bit after the bullshit they pulled on Memorial Day lifting the no wake on the lower. They said that was a bad call and will not happen again. I guess the DNR (state) has the authority to open and close the system but the FWA has the rights to only no wake it. Kind of find it hard to believe some guy behind a desk is making these calls in Springfield they got to be taking queues from the FWA. So the state opened the lower for boating yesterday and all the FWA could do is restrict it to no wake.

Its all political and about money. State needs sales tax and they won't get it if the system is closed or not full open. I am sure some of the smaller business hurt also. But places like Keifs or Broken Oar. 5-10 boats parked up is just a piss in the bucket when you got 200 motorcycles in the lot. These Chain business rely heavily on weather.

I was out for few hrs yesterday, made the big loop. I thought water level was a little high but not like memorial day. The idiots were definitely out in full force yesterday and decided to head back in. I actually didn't see one single LCS which I thought was odd. looking forward to this wknd as the forecast looks amazing

This is interesting.

Fox River Watershed

The Fox River watershed starts in Waukesha County, Wisconsin. Flows rise on the Fox River because a portion of the rainfall falling on the entire watershed flows overland to a stream and eventually enters the Fox River. As it enters Illinois, the Fox River drains 880 square miles from Wisconsin. The largest tributary to the Fox River is Nippersink Creek which enters the Fox River in Pistakee Lake. The Nippersink Creek watershed area is 200 square miles. The Fox River watershed area at Stratton Dam is 1250 squares miles; at Algonquin Dam it is 1400 square miles; and at Montgomery Dam it is 1732 square miles.

Stream gages are used to monitor stream flows throughout the watershed. The gages are operated by the US Geological Survey and reported on the internet in near real time. Several tributaries and the Fox River are monitored. Fox River stream gages are located in Wisconsin at Waukesha, Burlington, and New Munster and in Illinois at Algonquin, Montgomery and Dayton. There are additional gages on the Chain of Lakes and the Fox River at Johnsburg, McHenry Dam, and South Elgin Dam which report river stage only.

Boating Restrictions

The Fox Waterway Agency has the authority to enact no-wake boating restrictions during high water events. Chapter 5 (PDF) of the FWA ordinance specifies the water stages when these restrictions can be enacted. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources does not have authority to implement no-wake restrictions.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources can designate a body of water a "Restricted Boating Area" when conditions make navigation of a body of water significantly dangerous to the public. Title 17 Illinois Administrative Code Section 2030.80 describes the procedure for enacting and rescinding a Restricted Boating Area. The determination to enact and rescind a boating restriction is made on a case by case basis. This determination is made based on the totality of circumstances. Section 2030.15 (c) specifies that restricting boating for the purposes of protecting property is prohibited. The Office of Law Enforcement administers Restricted Boating Areas.

So have you heard of the petition going around at local Marinas? So there is a petition started by a senator/congressman something like that who lives off the river. I guess the biggest issue is the federal money allocated to repair the Stratton dam during the period they rebuilt the locks was spent on other things. The dam is not fully operational and why we have been seeing flooding.

i haven't heard that

that's interesting.

link to any of that?

i really still think that the flooding is due to the extreme rain events we've had... solely. we've gotten amounts of rain in single storms that we typically don't see in a week or two and especially north of here.

i do enjoy all these facebook conspiracy theorists though who really think that there is someone out there actually trying to fuck the chain by letting it flood frequently

fuck, the ramifications though of what you're saying if entirely true would be HYUUUUUGE.

dam isn't operating properly because money allocated to increase it's performance was spent elsewhere and the dam isn't even back to operating to it's level it was before the modifications started to take place?

and the millions of dollars of flood damage may be directly related?

cool.
