Doug Lewis in Atlanta at Ford Performance Specialists did that car a number of years ago for a private owner in the Pacific Northwest.

The car tooled around for a while and fell of the radar.

Local kid found that car and a Purple '96 SHO and put a lot of energy and posts on Taurus Car Club of America (TCCA) with both of those cars. He got a lot of help bring both cars around.
Ended up selling the Purple '96 to a couple SHO nuts up in Sheboygan Wisconsin earlier this year.
I guess he's done with this one now too. Lots of SHO history in this car.

JUST a little history . . .

Has to be fun with the V8

Honestly, V8 SHOs are kind of Slugs (235hp/220tq?).

However, they sound fantastic (3.4 quad cam V8, 7K redline), and have an exceptionally smooth powerband, but the Taurus is still like 3500lbs and it’s still an automatic, so they run like super high 14s on a good day in the quarter, but mid 15s is more likely.

That all being said, $2500 for a V8 sedan that is rust free and well put together is a screaming deal for a fun, very unique car.

If I had a kid that was into cars and needed a first car, I’d be all over this.

I was thinking about my 2003 Mercury Sable that I enjoyed and would had enjoyed a bit more with that motor
:wavey:

If you want a silly project, get a 1996+ Lincoln Continental and a 3rd or 4th generation Ford Taurus.

The 96+ Continental Had the Cobra 4.6 DOHC motor, but in a FWD configuration. The Subframes and mounting points between the platforms were shared or similar enough that it’s a rather straight forward swap.

The Cooling is the only real issue as the Conti has a header panel setup to accommodate a far larger radiator than the Taurus, but you can get away with ‘Pusher’ fans.

I’ve had a hard-on to do that as a project one day (a 4th gen Taurus or Sable wagon with the Conti ‘Innitech’ aka Cobra Mustang driveline). Only down side is no manual FWD trans shares that bolt pattern, nor can really deal with the torque, so Auto only.
