So I was at the harbor last Thursday evening cleaning the boat and fixing misc shit. I noticed a new boat in a slip near the gate. It was a mid 90s 26ish Bayliner. It was beat up and tied up so sloppy that I was going to take pictures of it to post on here. I asked myself why would someone spend this much on a slip and give zero fucks about the boat? I ended up bringing my waverunner down to put it in the water. As I walked down the dock to my truck I saw a younger black guy on the boat now. He was inside with the canvas on talking on his phone. I waved at him and he waved back. Not to sound racist but it is rare to see black people owning boats in the Chicago Harbor system. I thought it was kind of odd. I figured I would introduce myself when I got back since they are new to the dock. Its always good for harbor relations. I went and launched the waverunner and went directly out on the lake for a quick BRAAAP. I was waiting for the light for the harbor to turn green and I see the beat up bayliner exit and start going south. Guy took the boat out by himself. Also kinda strange.
I get back to the dock, tie up and finish up things. I was loading some stuff in the truck about to leave and a few security guards walk up and one of the Harbor Masters assistants. They ask me if I have seen (this boat) and point to where that beater Bayliner was docked. I said yeah and told them what I know. They told me the boat was reported missing by the owner. Either a friend took it out for a joyride (probably) or it got stolen. I left before the boat came back so I will have to get a update this weekend. But pretty fucked up if it was stolen or "barrowed" without the owner knowing.
