I started working on some of my boat projects again and its got me daydreaming about living aboard. Love the water and enjoy the rather simple life it affords when i do spend my weekends at the boat. You literally just don't have the space for a bunch of possessions. A basic wardrobe, basic home appurtenances, and overall a simple living style.

watched this whole series of youtube vids yesterday

I really like the idea of a fly bridge boat. Still gets up and goes decent, good amount of room inside vs other common boat types for sale in the area, relatively shallow draft, more suited to the type of boating i like to do vs something like a trawler.

couple good beaters for sale right now:

35 ft Owens MUST SEE!!! Immaculate
1987 Sea Ray 340 Sedan Bridge

It could be cheaper than renting a place, or live aboard in summer and cheap rent in the off season by subletting.

basically the same thing, a little more constrained in size. You can still have stuff, just not as much of it. You've got two pots and a pan, coffee maker, place settings for two people. Not 15 appliances on your counter, a glass for every different type of beer and a fridge full of expired food.

I live relatively simply now, most of my "stuff" has been in storage for two years. Besides bedding, toiletries, clothes, books, computer, and a tool box, i'm living without everything else. It's kind of nice. I had just reflected on this in another thread. If all my stuff burnt to a crisp, i've got about a dozen photos i care about. The rest i could walk to the store and replace in a few hours without any major hardship.

i'm trying to get to a garage and a bedroom as a home base then live out of backpacks, which i've done up to 4 months and am doing at the moment. definitely don't need all the stuff, nor all the house space to warm/cool/maintain etc.

boad would be especially cool in fl and just going wherever you felt like.

my career doesn't afford the ability to work remote. If i wanted to be extremely frugal, a serving/bar tending job could float the life no problem. But, i want to own a house at some point, and have retirement savings, and a normal life outside of where i choose to live

really i'm not sure how much i would recommend it. i've definitely passed up cool job opportunities and really cool ones lately. plus if i'm not doing a car thing somewhere it's not exactly super different than doing something back home? part of the reason i'm doing it is from a poopton of miles i still have.

i went out on a date with a cnn philippines reporter last night who was on her australian college debate team. unfortunately i leave in a few days. but she still wants to meet up again knowing that. moving frequently does not help with the dating thing either!
