Not talking about super low gunwale boats with V8's that are really only good for when the water is "glass". Talking about newer 19-25ish bowriders typically powered by "waverunner" engines. I got a ride on a Scarab 255 HO over the weekend and was kinda interigued. It was weird as fuck to drive and would take some getting use to but the layout was nice and it had good power. Granted this is a $50k+ boat I see some used Yamaha twin's engine jetboats this same "style" for under $20K

Scarab Jet Boats | 255 H.O.

I was reading some FB discssion on these jetboats. Guys were saying they were unreliable, ride like shit, hard to drive, etc. I find it hard to believe they would be unreliable (maybe the BRP powered ones) but still. Something like this would be nice for the Chain but I don't think it would like rough water. You wouldnt have issues with props and outdrives but you would probably suck up shit have have the same bullshit problems.

discuss.

I almost bought a semi v aluminum with a jet , for fishing . Figured it would be better in very shallow water.

Then I realized if I'm in that shallow of water I don't ever use my big motor , I use my troll . So I bought a regular bass boat instead .

no steering unless you are giving it throttle
no trim

not necessarily true.

a lot (if not all) of the newer ones if you crank the wheel with no throttle, it will give it throttle to make it turn.

i've driven two of these a total of probably 25-30 engine hours... a whole lot of meh to me for the money

lol
awesome.

also.
i wouldn't do a scarab personally...

scarab goes bankrupt after making halfway decent, halfway cool offshore boats, name gets resurrected making jetboats and only jetboats...

what happens when the latest scarab goes under...

i'd buy a yamaha or a chaparral if i was silly enough to actually want one of these. and even then, the chap would probably get the nod

I know it was BRP powered. Like I said just got a ride on one. Liked how it looked and sounded. If I bought it would be a Yamaha :nutz: See quite a few for under $20K.

I just wanna know if these are as "expensive" and "unrelable" as they claim.

buy newer 4 stroke pontoon. done. No reason to have a bowrider if you aren't doing watersports. you can pier pimp, anchor pimp, winter toon and visit EL puertooooo

pontoon 2 expensive to go "fast". Even though I "cruise" in the PQ at 30mph it would take a decent outboard to go that fast economically in a toon.

:werd:

i sold a few brand new 30k pontoons this year that were fucking ready to go...

22-24' long, 12-13 people capacity, tritoon, with 135hp engine for like 32k plus tax... (without a trailer)

it'll go 33 mph or so, and get 2-3 mpg if you aren't ripping.

Brands?

looking at a new(er) 4-stroke 22ft tritoon this weekend with a 115 yamaha. Should go "ok" since it isn't as long or heavy as current toon but need to go and see what the deal is.
