Then I had to get digging

Well unfortunately it rained a lot this week

So I pumped it out...three times

...continued...

Thursday it was time to brine the lamb which by then was named Jerry

And buy supplies...

And a lot of wood

So I got up really early on Saturday morning and started

We burned wood for three hours to get a nice base of hot coals. Great White Drake I had a beer for you while burning wood

...continued...

Now it was time to let the fire smolder so we dropped in the blocks and started prepping Jerry

Then we busted out those supplies an wrapped all 36 lbs in a couple layers of foil, then wet burlap then baled together in chicken wire.

...continued...

Time to go in the hole

And seal it up...

And then we waited... Hole was filled at 10:40 and we started digging at 4:15

At this point the photos stopped as it was go time. I had 35 hungry mouths waiting but I will tell you it was awesome.
SinisterSHO can vouch, he was a big help and the bearded wonder can be seen above

It was a great time, and the lamb was very good. Super tender, juicy, all the right things. Thanks for having me

Anytime!

Worth noting how good it smelled, BEFORE we even dug it back out. But the smell while carving, omg.

Yes, I wish I could have recorded that smell so I could play it back again and again

Ive never had lamb before oddly enough . That looks like an awesome setup tho.

Thanks

frigging awesome variation on a pig roast and sounds delicious. Plus, it looks like a lot of fun. :bigthumb:

I figured you'd like this

Reminds me of peruvian pachamanka, same concept using the hot rocks and burying it. Trying to remember what I ate down there cooked that way but Im not really sure what it was. lol Some good stuff though, they wrapped the meat up in banana leaves I think. I've always wanted to try to do it.

Yeah Banana Leaves are the old school way, just not available here and easier using the modern materials.

The rocks I think is where we had issues. I used those landscape blocks because I had them laying around. I feel like the insulated more than captured and transferred heat like they were supposed to. I'm not a geologist so next time I am going to bring one it to let me know what I should use. lol

I may need to borrow that hole one day..... :s00ls: looks delicious!

:amsoil:

Oh shit, nice! Lamb looks like it turned out great too. I'm surprised that thing even fit in the trunk

My wife doubted it... It was a tight fit just how you like it.

How crazy, that's some dedication and epic turnout.

Thanks!

Thanks for moving to the west coast and straining our fragile bromance

no gyro's in Mook's life?

EmersonHart13 looks fucking incredible

and that gto made me happy in places.

Mook sticks to Taco Bell

And thanks, I knew you'd like cooking in dirt.

Wow! That looks like a fun and amazing idea! You have given me motivation to try this, but with pork. Good shit.

Do it, it was pretty awesome. Bucket list type shit
