if you've been on Lake Michigan at night there's no way you'd want to be going any faster than enough to keep the boat on plane. Is dark as hell out there and way too hard to see anyone else, let alone an unlit massive object like a break wall.

you should really have some serious instrumentation to be cruising after dark more than a zip back to your harbor from a mile or two away.

What is scarry is that the lake is up so much this year the breakwall is VERY hard to see as it is. Gotta be only 3-5ft off the lake surface and if you got some normal chop then add in darkness. Yeah if you don't know where it is you probably gonna hit it at speed.

Last year I was out with friends watching the fireworks. We were heading north out of the Playpen area. Another boat was crossing our path going east. It was a 28ish cruiser and was moving pretty good. I seriously thought we were going to have to rescue people that night. The boat turned at the very last second. The captain oviously didnt know where he was going.
