So my sister was rear ended yesterday while merging onto an on-ramp with one of those crappy "stop before merging" signals.
She was coming down the on-ramp and had to stop because the signal was red. Blue car behind her did not slow down and hit her hard enough that the hatch on her car no longer opens. So, bumper, absorber, possibly frame damage.
Obviously the blue car here is at fault, no questions there.
Her front airbag didn't deploy, but she was rear-ended so thats not exactly unusual.
She got a concussion as her head hit the seat headrest pretty hard. Impact was probably 30-40mph being that this was a highway on-ramp. Maybe other issues with her neck resulting later on. She was taken to the ER for a check-up.
My question is the blue car was apparently purchased recently but the driver, but not reported yet to Geico.
I seem to remember there being a grace period for the new car to be covered without being reported. I think my company State Farm says its 30 days. Because I remember asking about it when I bought my Focus ST and traded in my G6.
So, because of this lovely snafu, my sister might have to pay for the repairs and medical bills out of her own insurance.
