Sometimes when i go to shut the car off, the key will not go into the off position and come out....i have to keep turning on and shutting off the car, and eventually it will go into the off position and come out.....anyone know why it's doing this.

Also, when i just turn on the car sometimes, i apply the break and try get it out of park, but the button won't push down on the shifter, sometimes i have to try it a couple times until it goes......it doesn't happen all the time, just once in a while.

any ideas guys?!?

the same thing happend to me, you have to get a new shifter assembly. I got one off ebay for 10 bucks and they are 300 from the dealer. There is a switch built inst the shifter assembally that is bad and you can't replace just the switch. So bacially when you shift it in to park the car thinks it is still in gear. For right now there is a small cover under the steering colum and you can stick a small screw driver in there and press a buttom and it shoud come out.

actually you canuse your finger..........

happens to all of us most of the time.

Tilt the steering wheel completly up and there will be an opening small enough for a finger to get into on the right side..
then, with your right palm facing you, slide in your middle finger and try to feel for a release button str8 up with top of your nail, and when you find it just push it in with the back of your nail....basically the direction that you would flick something, you need to flick the little button... it may take a bit the first few times, but now i can do it instantly without even thinking.

ps. brives valet's NUTS!!!

I have an easy fix for keys getting stuck in the ignition. since it was happening to me and i had to hit that little button everytime i got out of the car it got quite annoying.

Under the stering collum there is a plastic plug thing covering up the hole reight below where that little button is inside the collum...what I did was got a small 1" screw and nut to fix it....

take off that plug on the bottom slide the screw into the hole, now slip your finger into the steering collum like you would when your pressing the button but only this time bring that nut with you and try to thread it onto the screw...its a pain in the ass but it can be done. then once you have it threaded just tighten it by hand....what happens when you tighten the nut it pulls the screw into the hole and presses against the button....this way the button is always pressed in and you can get the key out. It might be a ghetto fix but i havent had to touch it in over a year now. and you cant see the screw cause its conutersunk into that hole...so its a very easy 20 cent fix for something that can be quite annoying.

the shifter locking in the P position i believe has something to do with the shifter itself and the saftely feature of having to have your foot on the brakes to get the car out of park. it might be a sensor or something but i dont believe the 2 are related. (ignition/shifter) it is a very common issue though. maybe a search on clubgp will get you more answers on that.
