I can't be the only person here with gripes. Mook mentioned in a post yesterday (on facebook) about the group not being for selling items, and the sale of cars being okay.

There are an excessive amount of both. I really don't think its the proper place to allow posting of any sort of for sale, wtb, or service offerings. The group pops up once in probably every 15 posts on my facebook wall, and of those 1/3 are an advertisement of some sort. frankly, it's annoying and I'm just going to leave the group if it continues. it's one step above a candy crush invite and clickbait ad. You'll never believe what happens next!

I like the group and being able to interact with people from this forum, the car related content, shit talking, potential members and believe that should be the purpose of the group. Non forum users posting is cool with me, it draws them here in some capacity or at least makes them know we exist. I also noticed after mooks post that a couple people made their way here and decided to make their first post a for sale ad. Out. I'd be searching in other places if I wanted to buy your car and you weren't a member here.

my suggestions:

-lay out some terms for facebook group posts.
-delete classified type ads.
-remove people from the group who can't seem to follow the terms after multiple times being asked not to post
-make a minimum post count to start a new thread in a for sale section on the forum I think 10-20 would be fine personally

Fuck Facebook groups... and fuck Facebook. Just unsubscribe to that garbage.

No way to search so it is repost city... The only real "benefit" is some cannot hide behind a screen name. But then again some Facebook accounts don't tell you much anyway.

TCG website FTW. Keep it old school

Yeah no idea why that exists. This forum is just fine of a place to post.

Why does the Facebook group exist. Thats where I'll start.

Jared mostly hit the nail on the head with the bolded part - the primary purpose of the group is so that people know we exist. I would say that 90% of the 600-800 people who log in monthly grew up on forums. They know how to use them, they prefer them to all other social outlets. But there is a much larger demographic that grew up on FB. They rarely use forums, they don't like forums, they don't know how to use forums, so they stick to FB. That is why there is such a horrendous amount of FB groups and that is why us having a group is to critical. Its also a big reason for our membership decline.

There is an increasingly large (and younger) demo that has no idea who we are, and that's mainly b/c our focus has always been on the forum aspect, rather than extending beyond. I created the group awhile back but never did much until last year. The group is a way to capture that young crowd who grew up and only uses Facebook. Even tho they might join the group, it rarely converts into a forum account, but most times its ok because they are still getting the important info via the group in regards to meets, etc.

Some might argue the TCG FB page can do that but I use that for promotion, marketing and a more nationwide reach. Posting up a meet or something gets ignored b/c our focus is much more broad. Think of it as our company page essentially.

---

As for all the for sale posts getting out of hand, I agree and I need to find a way to fairly and smoothly either set rules or eliminate it entirely. Eliminating it would essentially remove a large portion of the folks who use the group, but would that be a bad thing? They aren't really contributing beyond the sales post and constantly bumping it and anyone who knows of us or is a regular is going to list their car on the forum instead.

I will probably end up eliminating for sale discussions and set that as the new rule. The group might see less activity but that's fine. The group is meant to be an extension of the site, not just the same crap you see elsewhere on FB.

I brought up post count for the For Sale section and is definitely something I want to implement after seeing a couple of single post people selling shit. Almost everyone I looked at checked out (Google/Youtube the cars such as that Corvette for sale) and were legit so they stay.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I have no desire to implement post count rules for any section of the site. Does it make sense to do so, ya, more than likely so. But I hate it on the national sites, I hate it on the local sites, and I don't want to have it on here. TCG has always been open and easy to access...Id still like to maintain that.

I made you (and Will) mods of the classifieds...if you are taking issue with how those sections are being run, you should be the one(s) taking control. I didn't make you a mod just so that you'd have colors under your name. If you feel 1 post is not enough to make a new thread, create a new rules sticky, and enforce it. Lock or soft delete a thread, send the person a PM and go from there. I have no problem with that section being ruled w/ an iron fist.

We have an issue enforcing the small amount of rules we have (I'm just as guilty), so maybe its time we tighten the reigns a little.

I understand the care free attitude and ease of access we have here and it's great. But when it comes to monetary transactions, there needs to be some strict enforcements. Look at that cam debacle with lastls1. If someone gets burned and we are the "brand" attached, people will associate a bad dealing with our name.

Duly noted. Post count requirement incoming.

Rules? On TCG? Lol
