How much of a difference(HP/TQ/top and bottom end) you think I will see between the two (1.9s vs. 1x CAM)?

I have headers on now.

I want to go to and IC and maybe a 3.29 racing trans....that will be all after that.

Im just worried about put a cam in and blowing the motor with all that money donw the tubes.........Id go a cam in a minute with a new engine.

I've been eyeing the cams availible, and so far I'm not that impressed with any of them. No offence to any of the vendors, but IC'd / rocker cars are routinely hitting mid and lower 12's now. To reach the highest HP goals I agree a cam is a must, but I should be in the 12's this summer with a stock cam and no rockers. Rockers are a band aid for poor flowing heads, a set of good heads and rockers could get you deep in the 12's. Just my humble opinion...

oh, and john, chris mercadante just dynoed last week with his stage 1x cam, he got 304fwhp and 360tq, this was with a 1x cam non intercooled and no nitrous, his best time so far is a 12.6xx
Hey Bumpin, didn't someone just run 12.33 with a rocker car? Just giving you a hard time...There are always several ways to attain the same goal, but it's a fact that setting a goal in the first place helps anyone design a system for speed that works.

Since I've been in the thick of it for the last month or two, here's the lowdown on heads. To get an idea of what's involved go to standard abrasives website. There is a porting guide on there that explains the ins and outs of porting and the advantages, it's good info even if you don't plan on porting heads yourself. Intense is the only "commercially" availible heads thus far. ZZP will be offering some soon for the masses also. Other than that, local speed shops usually offer a "street/strip" porting service, and price is dependent on the shop's rep. (The SA website goes into detail on the "average" S/S job) If you buy used heads, expect to pay $100-150 for '97/'98, $200-250 '99-'03 $400 & up for L32's. Valve jobs run around $150, valve guides are $60+ per, full bronze guides $200-500, magnaflux $35 pair, resurface $60 pair. A decent set of good flowing street/strip heads should run $350-500 total, but when you get into flowed race heads $1000-1800.
