i just read the Cubs are rumored to be in the market for Boston's Short Stop Nomar Garciaparra.. any one else heard anything about this and who they would possibly be trading for ?

Put Todd Hollandsworth back in at center. He can't do any worse.

But if they get Nomar...maybe get rid of walker or gonzalez?

i dunno if i would get rid of a "possible" star (Patterson) star for a position that will be solidified (sp) once Gonzalez is back and stays healthy .

i think the best way is to just pick him up outright with no trade ... just assume his contract and pay him the money ... ALSO, we desperately need to find some solid middle relief .

first of all i doubt that Boston would part with Nomar because of the heated race they are in with their arch rival Yankees. we wouldn't have enough money or prospects to give to Boston for Nomar anyways. if we were to pick up anybody it would most likely be Orlando Cabrera from the Montreal Expos... that would be a solid pick up to.

Supposedly the rumors say its a three-way trade.

Cubs would get Nomar Garciaparra
Red Sox would get some minor league prospects, then trade those prospects to the Arizona Diamondbacks for Randy Johnson.

The trade I guess would work, since Boston can clear some salary cap by trading off Garciaparra, which would allow them to grab Randy Johnson and pay some of his salary/resign him.

Cubs would probably only keep Garciaparra for this year only to make a run for the playoffs, and then let him free to sign with whomever team he wants to at the end of the season..

Personally I think the Cubs are covered offensively, once Ramirez gets healthy again things should get better for them. If they should trade for ANYTHING, it should be for some bullpen help. This is where they've been really struggling in this year...

Mike I'm with you. I don't care how many home runs he hits. IMO he's more of a liability than he is an asset. Did you see his first pitch during the home run derby? Pretty much sums up his at bats.
