Well from what all my buddies told me. Don't know if this is true or not. But anything under a 13.0 has to have a roll cage. And if you have t-tops, anything under 13.9 you have to have a roll cage. Like i said don't know if this is true or not, but sounds kinda crappy if you ask me.

I could have sworn my boss said any 13 second car requires a roll cage. He used to go there quite often a couple of years ago, when his 10 second Nova was still operational (should have broke 9's, but he was still getting aquainted with the car). Anyways, that's what I thought he told me, which I thought sucked. If I ever broke 13s, I wouldn't want a roll cage in my daily driver. <_<

Don't know if the rules changed this year. But my dad has a 2002 WS6 and we went alot a year ago and he runs consistant low 13's in it. They never once said anything about having a roll cage. If you are in the 13's, you do have to wear a helmet. I think they just look more for the v8's to have to wear helmets, unless when they are checking your car, they see some serious engine work done.

J/O : I got that same letter to. That place is kind of a rip. Oh well. Doesn't the letter say something like, we are increasing the tax or something to provide a better strip for you. Who knows.

Here is some specific info on Route 66 for you fellas...

Test & Tune events at Route 66 Raceway consist of an open time trial and testing opportunity for individuals looking to fine tune their drag racing skills.

Our Test & Tune program is open to any class of vehicle as long as it passes NHRA technical inspection as set forth in the 2004 NHRA Rulebook. To steal an old phrase it is an event of “run what ya brung”. You will see everything from family minivans to full-blown alcohol dragsters and funny cars. Since these participants are testing, they will be running as hard as they can to get every bit of performance from their machines.

The Route 66 Raceway Test & Tune program is presented by Beaver Creek Trailers is the presenting sponsor.

During these events there are no eliminations, no purses, and no prizes or awards.

Tickets $11.00 per person (Includes Joliet Head Tax) *What J/O was talking about
Childen 12 and Under are Free
Run Card $25.00

In reply to some of the questions we raced there a lot the summer of 2002 and here were the rules then:
Helmets for 13.99 and under for all cars.
Roll cages for cars 11.99 and under.
We were driving a 2002 Trans Am (13.5) and only needed a helmet to run, and we raced about 5 times that summer there.
I know there have been changes to the NHRA Rulebook so if someone has a 2004 copy that is your best bet.
Make sure you get there before 4:00 anytime after you will wait forever in the check in lines, and get 2-3 runs in all night.
I would get there around 3:15-3:30 and be check in before 4:00 and get almost 5 runs in the first hour and be done for the night so I could sit and watch the others.
Good luck and by the way make sure you wear gym shoes and pants if you wear shorts you can't race! Just take a helmet in case also!
If you have specific questions I know you can call Route 66 and ask them I think this is the number 1.815.727.7223 (RACE)

I BEILEVE gates open at 4...not sure, I can check later, I got the letters and I know a lady who works there. But they're tech is very strict and crazy. and like Bumpin said, if you run and then hit 13.9X they let you slide and you wear the helmet next time. If you don't, they boot you. They don't give 2nd chances that I've ever seen. If you go, get their early like when they open you can hot lap it for a while then it sometiems get packed up.

I also got a letter this year, saying they are gonna have a separate night for people who are 13.99 and faster. So that will be sweet as you won't have to deal with all the ricers, and suv's running 18's

thats is not true my brother has a camaro and last time ran a 12.9@110 on a slipping clutch and he heard about that and got mad but nothing ever came of it and you dont need any thing it was false information. from wht i heard.

I got a letter also i think 1 more dollar is not bad but to pay 11 then 20 or 25 for tech that a rip off....

they open at 4:00 i would get there around 330 to be first in line then you get like 10 passes in b-4 every gets there.

I may actually be able to pass tech at Rt. 66 this year :D :) Roll cage came in yesterday so just a matter of getting it tig welded in ... then I should be finished safety wise until 10.00 ...

crap... still need fire suit ...
you got a drive shaft loop? also what kind.... did you need to take it out... my brother needs one and he has his off right now so it will be a easy install.

Yup, i've gotta BMR DSL , it did require pulling the driveshaft. It needed a little rework when I put my long tube headers on though (Y-Pipe was resting on DSL bottom support... so I just had to use longer bolts and washers to space the brace down some, didn't affect the geometry of the loop itself)

Regarding the roll cage/bar ... NHRA rules are 11.99 or faster... however if what Bumpin said is true that T-Top cars are now considered convertibles (or require convertible safety equipment) then I think 13.99 or faster requires a bar and 12.99 or faster requires a cage ... not 100% sure on that though

If it is true that T-Top cars need to follow the same rules as convertibles it'd suck though... a hard top f-body is absolutely no stronger than a T-Top F-body ... on a hard top the area where the t-tops would go is just thin sheet metal... (people have done conversions in the past going hard top to t-top)
