i have heard that this ecotec engine that GM is using now is the real deal for performance applications. it can handle a ton of horsepower on stock internals and still be very reliable in the long run. i also heard that they are using the same blower as on a GTP is this true??

still a saturn
You'll be saying that when you see it tails too.

GM is finally following suit though on the sport compact idea though. Which i think is a good call on their part. Altough why does gm love the sc so much? I mean when going for that market a turbo seems like a better idea to me plus it just seems like a turbo would produce ALOT more power on a little motor like that.

I have no problem with saturns personally. Dont forget there syp saturn is owned by the same company that your gp is.

I've yet to hear one bad thing about them. And besides its just another J body I believe. which checy and pontiac also build on.
i am not to sure but aren't the new Ions built on some new corporate platform... cause Chevy is comming out with the Cobalt SS which is the replacement for the Cavalier and i thought the ION is on the same platform as that. the Cobalt SS is gonna have the same S/C'd engine as in the ION Red Line except its gonna look much better than the Saturn. The GM race car that uses the Ecotec has like 900 hp i think!! it runs 8's in the ¼!

The company also uses Ecotec engines in its factory front-drive drag racing program, where in turbocharged form it develops a whopping 1000 hp. Further, a modified Ecotec pow-er-ed an Ion Redline to a land-speed record at Bonneville last year (AW, Oct. 27, 2003). That car went 212.684 mph in the G/Blown Fuel Altered class, with longtime GM engineer Jim Minneker at the wheel

1000hp on factory internals... I wonder... not likely, right?

I believe the Cavalier that the late Lingenfelter had his tragic accident in was 900 hp running on stock internals. I've read in several places that the Ecotech is capable of this. GM was quite serious when putting this motor together.
