hey how about posting a mod list. which cam is this ? any other changes? i'm behind schedule this week so i really can't take the time to pay an in person visit to diagnose it, but i'll help if possible. if no one else can assist, i could probably come up there, but let ssee if we can troubleshoot remotely first!

That sux!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can come out there with the A-tap if you want, just let me know. When you were starting it, were you giving it gas trying to start it? If so you might have flooded it, If your by the car now try holding the gas pedal to the floor and try starting it. Without more info its hard to diagnose the problem through the comp.

:) Always willing to help.

need to know if it does it in drive.. if not then it is electrical... you have a short somewhere. I would check around where the shifter pawl meets with the trans gear selector switch on top of the trans. also check for wires that my have melted by a manifold.

It is not a timing issue (due to the cam) and most likely not a fuel issue (else it would not idle and the putt putt die would happen in drive too).

If it does not die in drive then put it in nuetral, get pushed out of the driveway and then get to Casper`s. Justin will be able to figure it out.....

If it was the timing chain the car wouldnt start at all...
that depends on how much the timing was out.... over 20* and yes... it would not start. +or- 6-10 and it would start but run like crap, under 6 and you would have one hell of a lope...
you have to pull the timing chain if you do a cam.. does not matter if you replace it or not.

In any case, this is NOT the problem....

Sorry but sounds like timing... her car also dies at idle and has a hard time staying running. She has to give it gas to keep it running. Looks like the four dots weren't quite aligned when the car was put back together. The evap code is cause with the differant cam the vacuum has been changed and with it being out of time there is a problem with that also.

she says the car idles fine. starts no problems. its when you put it in gear is when it dies. i lined up all the dots. the timing chain, when i pulled it off, was never moved at all. i slid it off and it never moved one tooth. when it left here, it idled fine after we plugged in the IAT sensor oops :p ;)

she actually called me the other day with a problem having the car idle. It would drop down to 500 rpm and then stall out. She had to stay on the gas to keep it running. I have my cam off by one tooth right now and have somewhat similar problems car has a hard time starting, but once started runs fine. Lisa are you noticing the car vibrating alot? If it is then thats defiantly a timing issue. The only other issue that it might be is a coolant leak. Pull the plugs and see if they are wet. The reason car is dieing when putting in reverse cause it drops the car down in rpms. Lisa you need to monitor your IAC and see if your having vacuum problems.

welp i will see how things go after I see Charles and we will take it from there...not too much shaking hale.. I can get it to shift into reverse now..but it just dies when idle at stop lights and such...so hopefully its not the timing i know snoop did it right his dad made sure he aligned things right ...he even did it twice to make sure they were right on 12 , 6 or somthing....
THanks

Is it dieing forward and reverse? Snoop when you did the chain did you turn the car over through the fly wheel a few times?? I have found that if you spin it once and check alot of times it is still lined up but when you do it three or four times it will be off by one tooth. I'm not trying to bash you dude just trying to help you with some experiance I have had with these cars.

well 2 nights ago it was dieing in reverse but that only happened those few times...other than that it will die in park and drive....but not if i give it gas ...
to really see if it is the timing or not we will be pulling the engine back out in a few weeks to put the torque convertor in...while we have it out i think its a good idea that i get a new timing chain...

well couple other thoughts.....

whats your vacuum looking like ?
did you check the wiring in the rear of the engine bay ?
you got stock maf? screen removed? what airbox/intake ?
basic cam right ?

I had problems iwth a thrasher cammed GT that didn't want to run at lights for the life of it, but that was way too much cam for the car, period. If you have that stage 1, this really shouldn't be an aissue, unless your fueling is way off.

I'm going to guess that you have a modified throttle body with no screen ?

I'll then guess that its a combination of the two that are doing you in. Idle the air is not as smooth which makes maf readings hard. Then since you've modified the cam setup, the airflow is off at idle anyway......

We'll take a look at it tonight.

Charles
