My brother is looking to purchase a '97 Black four door GTP with 80,000 miles the guy is asking $7500 but can get him down to $6800 Do you guys think this is a good deal? The car looks really, really clean...

Here are the options:
Driver Air Bag; Anti-Lock Brakes; Air Conditioning; Alloy Wheels; AM/FM Radio; Cruise Control; Compact Disc Changer; Passenger Air Bag; Rear Window Defroster; Power Seats; Leather Seats; Power Door Locks; Power Mirrors; Power Windows; Power Steering; Tilt Wheel

Any advice would be great!
Thanks

I've been GTP shopping and that is about average asking and expected price after talking the guy down, but I personally will never buy another car that close to 100,000 ever again. You will end up having to fix to much stuff. But I also put WAY more miles per day on my car than the average person does.

I've been looking for pretty much the same thing though, 97 or 98 gtp for under 8k. I'm just gonna be patient and keep looking until I find a truly good deal.

Your brother give up on the camaro?

Seems about fair. If you are going to get a car with that many miles you should either have cheap access to a mechanic, or be good at fixing things because you are going to have a lot of sensors and such that will fail within the next 40k. So long as he can deal with replacing trivial bullshit then go for it.

Just info for your price comparison - I was selling a 1997 GTP with 95K miles for $5800 a couple of weeks back. This price included an intercooler which was going to be installed. Perfect running order with many preventive replacements already done.

Trade in is only $4025
my brother is a car salesman at Jaguar and he has told me never to accept what they offer you as a trade in (no offense intended)

have someone from the club check it out.....AlexGTP, GTPHale, 12SecGTP, etc.

personally i think it is a decent deal
I agree private party might be higher. Trade-in is basicaly wholesale, which is what dealers pay each other for the car.

YEs be weary of used cars. Have a member on here cehck it out for you.

The other day I went to do a pulley swap in the hooters parking lot. Well
it turned out that on this memberc car someone had attempted to do a pulley . But instead they damaged the seal..broke off an M8 stud in the SC snout.. and lost the breather nut. Now he has 2 choices. either replace the snout. or attempt to drill out the broken stud and re-tap it. Either choice is a bitch..

I think 6800 is quite high for a 97.... the 80k is high mileage but if you look at it, it was only driven about 13k per year... that is considered low mileage.
none the less, i would not pay over 6k for a stock 97.

definately have someone knowlegeable check it out. a trusted mechanic or someone here who knows thier $hit.
