I need a new one. I need to make more money. Anyone work at a place that is hiring? I'm a graphic design student with some experience under my belt and I worked on a printing press for a year before moving here. No other experience is really worth naming. I just need a decent paying job that can work with my goofy school hours. If anyone can help me out just say so. I don't care what the work is really. I just need alot of hours and decent pay, both of which i'm not getting much of anymore. thanx

I would like to work at car max or that other place. Where's solar communications located ron? I'm used to sheet fed but I think I can handle the difference. And which car max air cal? What do they pay btw?
The Naperville one. Rt59 and 88. Not sure what they pay but you could find some evening or maybe morning hours so you could work out a school schedule.

Honestly, I haven't been over to Solar for a long time, so I don't know what they're paying. They were the leading direct mail insert supplier when I left. Down the street from them there is also another printing company that did magazine printing, when they opened several of the pressmen went over there because they started about $35 an hour, I think it's Suncraft or Suncoast.

I go to westwood man. Not a nice school but a decent amount of perks plus I go year round so I'll have my VC bachleors in 2 and half years from now.

ROn I'll send my resume to those places. I doubt it will do much gppd, the printing industry is hurting, there have been plenty of lower level jobs that I woulda had easily had it not been for over qualified veterans taking them because they can't get anything else. I've got printing in my blood though. My mom works on a stichter at donnelly's and my grandpa was a web pressman for like 35 years there too. I had a good job before I moved up here at a little place that was growing insanley fast, right now I'd be making $15 or more running a 29 x 40 sheet fed heidelberg. I mean running it too, they had plan on getting me an assistant and have me running my own shift within six more months (which is how long it has been). That woulda been cool but I gotta go to school.

Well, I got out of printing about 4 years ago. I can't believe running a Heidelburg pays so little now. That's a million dollar piece of machinery. I worked in fulfillment, Platemaking, stripping, quality assurance, production, estimating, and sales for various companies in printing. In the late eighties when I started, platemakers in the union were making 60K a year. Try and find that now! In 13 years in printing, I never made more than 35K, I took my sales experience into giftware and more than doubled that in the second year. It's really too bad, but with technology changing, many printing companies are stuck in the past trying to recoup the price of purchasing that expensive equipment.

Well I'm only 19. And the only experience on anything bigger than a multilith 4620 i had was working there. They were paying me so little because they could. The pressman I worked with the whole time I was making $60k or so a year (maybe closer to 70?) You also have to consider it was in Indiana where the cost of everything is decently lower compared to being here. I'm not saying all of indiana is like that but that area is. Gas is atleast 15 cents cheaper than here. Always. Usully even cheaper than that.

Someone's going to get pissed at me for saying this (I lived in Michigan city for a year, so I feel I can!) but...

They probably don't pay well because they don't want any of the wacko's there to have money! Man, I was in a working cover band based there, and I never met so many freakin drunks, sluts, and junkie's in my life. Crap, the stories I could tell! I had married swingers on several occasions trying to get me to go home with them, not even mentioning homosexuals. We had some girl coming up to us during sets flashing and touching herself, at the end of the show she wanted us to take her back to the loft for some 4 on 1 action, YIKES! We used to travel a lot, but we were back every 6 weeks, and gigged there. More stuff like that happened there than any time we were on the road. Ah, glory days...

Are you saying all of indiana is like that or something?

Man I lived in a town where you had to drive 15 min to get ot a stoplight. Maybe the urban places in indiana are like that but not where i'm from. Its all about tractors there.
They look at everyone who doesn't wear wranglers and plaid shirts as wackos. lol
I think cost of living is so low because everyone there is poor compared to most other places.

Yeah, probably so. I always got a kick out of it when I was out there though. Maybe it's because my life at the time was limited to hanging out in bars all the time from being in the band. To this day I can't really stand hanging out in bars much. It gets old after awhile.

I'm sure it does, but I'm only 19 so I'm sure it'll take awhile for me personally to get sick of them consider I've only been to 3 different bars only went to each of them once.

You should be my mentor ron.
You're older, we both like cars, worked in printing, and have done band stuff.

Only you have much more experience in all 3.

Art Institute is small as well, only like 1,000 students in all majors combined. I am in my 5th quarter, and have about just under 2 years left before i graduate with my BFA. But i am also thinking of tripple majoring, in interior design, and digital media production as well. Most classes are similar, so i will only pay for the extra classes to get the other degrees.

I love that school, biggest class size is 25 students, but hardly ever meets quota, mostly like 12-15 students per class. The only down side to this school is the tuition. About $60k for 3 years, compared to like $17-20k at Westwood (I think, im not positive)

I still love it there, lots of cool people, and quite a few hotties!!!

Westwood is about $53K if entering with no credits. My daughter is transferring in. Went to Jr. College for cheap when deciding what she wanted to major in, then 1 semester at Univ. of Northern Iowa.....at $20K a year. Out of state tuition is draining. She started at Westwood on Jan. 6th, so we will see. Housing is another added cost since we are too far away to commute.

LPSEED2, I see you are from Addison. Princeton played Addison Driscoll in the 4A playoffs in '02. Not a pleasant game for Princeton. Driscoll plays some really good physical football.
