no it's not bad... you can register domains pretty cheaply... i've seen them as low as 12 bux a year. Then you need a hosting service ... not sure how expensive they are (i've always hosted my own web sites on my own server) .. maybe 20 bux a month for a low bandwidth site?

I buy all my domains through network solutions (www.networksolutions.com) ... they're not the cheapest but it's just easier to manage all of them through one interface.. and I like their interface.

Then I use dyndns.org for my DNS needs and host the sites on a w2k server (currently running IIS 5.0 and Exchange server 2003)

I always use netsol... and they charge $35 for the year.... easy interface.. especially when you are a VIP like me.. I own hundreds....

if someone needs hosting... I can do it.. pretty cheap.... and I am hosting on a computer with dual OC48 lines... and plenty of options...
