i have a old unit and it is connected to my network.....question is, is there a way that i can share the DVD-rom from one computer to another? meaning can i put a dvd in the DVD rom of another computer and play/watch the DVD on another computer?? let me know if this is possible so i don't spend all day on this.....thanks!!!

I'm 95+% sure you can't do that directly through a network. But you can remote desktop/live desktop it so you see the other computer's screen, and play the dvd on the other computer, and watch it on both computers. Only other way is to direct connect it to your computer...or use a cable to connect your dvd computer's video card (S-Video) to a TV, or another computer and watch both screens be the same.


As for remotely using/controlling a DVD player from another computer over a network/LAN, and only seeing it on another computer, isnt possible to my knowledge.

yes you can share a DVD over the network, no you can not watch a movie over that network... reason being... it has to decode the movie... software wouldn't be able to keep up....

cool thats what i figured......would be pretty sweet if it could....what do i need to make this a media center so i can play music off of my TV/Stereo and play movies that are on my hard drive....do i need a TV tuner to hook it up to my tv and stereo??
