do some preliminary checks first...check your coolant level in the radiator..check your engine oil on your dipstick for a milkshake...if your coolant is full you obviously dont have a consumption problem, its more than likely condensation collecting in the cap...its not uncommon

Sounds normal to me.. mine once in a while gets some weird condensation under the oil cap as well. Also with 141K on mine it consumes a 1.5 quarts of oil between changes. I don't know how guys put 5.5 quarts into these with a stock length filters.. on my car that is not even up at the minimum. I always use the long Truck oil filters and 7 quarts which puts the oil level just little past the max line on the dip stick.

You own an LS1, and you just listed two of the most common issues I see on them. Next you will talk about a light tapping when you run your car cold and you will have the trifecta!

The mucus buildup is pretty normal on a ls1 especially if you're making short trips. If you aren't overheating constantly, losing oil pressure or eating cooling I wouldn't worry about it.

Ls1 engines are extremely notorious for eating oil. Do what pewter camaro said and use a truck filter or just make sure to check and top off the engine regularly.

finally common sense rears its pretty head.

condensate is exactly what it is. op tell your friend to stop diagnosing vehicles now. hes clueless. anyone who knows ls1's knows what it is.
