That's kinda shitty that you're taking the class and have no intent of buying a bike. Those classes are hard to get into, and your spot could have gone to somebody who IS going to ride and could actually get use out of it. Just my opinion.

I took the class as a 'bucket list' thing to get M class on my license.

I briefly had a bike, but ditched it because it was a bit too run down. Never got around to buying another.

And they aren't that hard to get into, you just need to sign up 2 month prior. It's been that way for years IIRC because it is free.

These classes are great for people who want to learn and ride or are just thinking about riding.

This... You learn a ton of useful information. Some of it can actually save your life. Whenever I take my bike out it seems like people are out to kill me. You have to act like nobody sees you and know where everyone is around you at all times.
Oh yeah and you get a small discount on your insurance.

At the same time... this.
There are very limited spots and it sucks that you are just wasting their time. Someone who will actually ride wont get to take the class and wont get to learn how to ride properly just because you want to hang out with your friend.

Enjoy, should be a great learning experience.

Personally I take an advanced MSF course every couple of years just to keep my good habits sharp, and not get complacent. Been riding now for about 9 years but it's good to do. I love it when I hear someone that's been riding and says they know EVERYTHING and don't need to take one of those courses ever. Fucking idiots.

They are definitely a great thing for anyone considering a bike or just want to learn.. saying you shouldnt take the course if your not ready to buy one is just silly.

with that said, ive never taken it.. im sure i could learn a thing or two but ive been riding since age 9. i think ill be ok.

I have been riding for 11 years and I took it a few years ago and learned a few things too. I suggest it to anyone who is wanting to learn to ride.
Also it was crazy how fast it filled up. Had to sign up at midnight and barely got in.

I'll be doing the same, I believe I signed up for May 4-6 in the B class. (No way gonna be in class at 6am saturday sunday) Gonna be getting a bike before summer and thought it wouldn't hurt to actually learn some techniques and new things as well as finally getting my M class.

It's easy as hell to pass the test at the DMV but I have heard a lot of people say they really learned a lot of useful stuff so I figured it would be worth a weekend to become a better rider.

It is true that those classes fill up CRAZY fast, I signed up the morning after the registration and at least half the classes offered at NIU were already filled. Im sure they are probably all now, but I have heard if you show up early and put your name on the walkin list a lot of people who registered online don't show.

EDIT: Now that I realize it I am kind of pissed because this is the weeknd of KOTS.....shit

I understand taking the class if you are unsure if you want to ride or not, but to take it just for the sake of taking it, knowing you will not be buying a bike or riding in the future is bullshit. Just my opinion of course.
