Ask yourself this......How would it make power? What kind pf power curve would one have versus the other? What kind of rpm would the smaller motor need to make the same peak power? And so on.

Obviously the smaller engine is going to have to work a lot harder to achieve bigger numbers. High rpm's, radical camshafts, and so on.

Since they can both get close to the same Mpgs why not make it a hp/weight ratio of the motor itself? Instead of displacement. How does each motor perform in the same car?
Since its a motor comparrison and not a car comparrison.
How much would each cost to put in a car and what would cost more to do so to get to a certain power goal or track time goal?
How available are the parts and how easy are they to work on/ mod yourself?

That's how I'd compare in my mind. just my .02

It also has a better tq/l ratio, and a better lb/hp ratio in the Mustang GT Vs. Camaro platform......

So do HP/L, TQ/L, and LB/HP all mean nothing in the real world?

Yes! Why is it hard to understand that HP/L means nothing when the guy at the stoplight next to you has MORE HP!?! Things like average HP, average TQ, power under the curve, physical size of the engine, weight of the engine, are what matter.

just thought I'd throw this in here.
This car has quite a bit of work done to it... but its still a naturally-aspirated, manual 2011 GT in the 9's. Given, its not a stock bottom-end or anything, but 137 mph out of an N/A 318ci engine is pretty damn good. 8000 RPM's :eek3:

Just a thought i'll throw in here....

They apparently beat their old record this weekend. Just a tick over 1000 horsepower winding up to 10,000rpm

fucking this to a T. HP/L means shit. if HP/L meant everything then 800whp supras would decimate all but instead run 12's. It's just what people use to try and justify why they aren't making X. lbs/Hp does mean a bit more, but even then it's about what the entire powerband is doing, not just the peak number.

If the guy next to you in his honda has more power than you, and you have a v8 that means your v8 is capable of more right?... if the smaller 5.0 has nearly what the larger 6.2 has for power shouldn't the 6.2 have more?

displacement is only one factor. There is much more involved with the design of the motor that determines it's capabilities. OHC vs pushrod's are different beasts.

The LS has been around a bit while the Coyote is new so that makes it a little tough. The LS3 has much better core weight characteristics if that makes any difference to anybody. The Coyote's obviously got the advantage in technology but it seems to me most of that stuff really just improves stock driveability in the end. I suppose as of right now the LS is cheaper and more common to build right now so that's my vote now but that could change.

Definetly not. 300 whp out of only 1.6 liters is far more impressive than 600 in a 5.7... The 5.7 is 3 times the size and yet it only makes twice as much power?
This proves my point. Yeah it's impressive but the guy lost. Who cares. an evo with a shit load of boost runs a HCI T/A. Evo wins, he wins. TA wins, he wins. I never keep record of who I run and consider a win via hp/l. Maybe the civic guys consider it a win, but they aren't crossing that line ahead of the other car. It doesn't mater. It's just a ricer excuse for the loser. Just like saying "oh you had to have a power adder to beat me". Tuff titty a lose is a lose
as impressive as it may be it still lost the race
