Then youll need a converter to run on stock headunit/radio

you need a line converter that splices into the rear speakers to get the amp the signal since you dont have a aftermarket with RCA hook ups.

:fy:

was gonna say that ull need to split the signal from somewhere. you could honestly do it yourself. its very easy IMO. ive setup a few subs and wired new speakers in a car with all new wire before. the biggest pain is getting the wire around and hidden to make it look good

okay, instead of makig another thread, Ill just continue this one with another topic.

I went to get the subs and amp installed at Best Buy. The guy said the JL amp was too much for these subs and they would blow within a week. I have the warranty so I wasnt too worried about that. Also, he said they wouldnt hit that hard and I wouldnt be completely satisfied with this setup.

Now, I also have a Kicker L5 from a few years back. The installer said that my 1 L5 would hit harder than the 2 Kickers i bought and would be more satisfied with installing that speaker is instead.

My question is, How accurate is he? Will I be unhappy with installing the 2 12's? or should I just install the 1 L5 with the Jl amp?

All depends on your box really. Subs don't make the setup. A properly tuned box does. I used to have 1 15inch L5 on a 1000watt amp n it was harder then any dual 12. The box being tuned will be your best investment. I used to have a program that would input speaker info, size of space available and it wold create box dimensions based on wat Hz I wanted tuned to. U can have shitty subs in a killer box n bang. I've seen 8inch woofers in a snail box do 140db and stand hair on end.

Depending on what box you put the L5 in it could hit as hard as the 2 12s. the jl amp does have more power than is required but if adjusted properly it will be just fine. the kicker subs you got are a great entry level sub, the box is a very good prefab box. the cvrs would obviously hit much harder but the jl amp you have would be under powering them

So, the L5 vs the 2 12's , the L5 should as hard if not harder and the the 2, and the JL amp would be good enough for the 1 L5?

Marks a good, knowledgeable, and fair guy. I have been buying stuff from him for over 10 years. He has never steered me wrong and I would believe in any of his recommendations.

Good to hear :bigthumb:

:( then i wouldnt expect some wailing slammin sounds. especially with a trunk that big in those 3800s, you can fit a big nice ported box. the more volume the speaker has to move the lower it can hit.

i had a 3.5cu ft box w/ 1 15" L5 wired at a straight 1000. shit was too loud. kickers like air to move.

my buddy was a tweeter installer, had a K5 blazer with a 12cu/ft box with 4 15" L7s all on thier own kicker 1000.1. nasty.

if you want cost effective... and you got some tools build one. we built all our own. dont like the pre-fab stuff.

ill look on my torrent site tontie and see if i can find the program i had. i got it for free like 7 years ago online.

all you need is liquid nails, 3/4" MDF board, 2" screws, and carpet.

to give you an idea - my 3.5cu ft box was about 3.5ft wide, 18" tall, and about 1.75ft deep im guessing.... kickers love big boxes.
