Open office should work just fine for simple spreadsheets, but I always save their stuff in ms office format so if you send the file to someone with ms office they can open it fine. Try that out and if open office doesn't do it for you I can point you in the direction of some good torrents.

If you are doing that FOR work, your work should buy you a copy. Are you using a work supplied laptop? If so, and they get Audited, they can get some nasty fines.

If they cannot/will not they have bigger problems IMO.

Open office is working for me just fine. Its my personal laptop but whenever I'm out of town I do my timesheets and expenses on here. I could buy it and write it off but it takes to long for my company to get around to do things like that.
