Overrated =/= bad. It means that the movie got accolades and was praised as being one of the best movies ever and its no better than a B-rated action flick.

It's not like it got the Best Picture Oscar...it got nominated, but probably shouldn't have in the first place. Maybe the academy felt obligated given how many other categories it was nominated for.

The Oscars it won, it deserved. Costume Design, Production Design, Sound, Makeup.

The use of practical visual effects, many times, in place of CGI made the movie that much more visually stunning and the action that much more intense. Add to that the cinematography and it was an exciting, visually awesome movie. The story and acting was meh at best, but that doesn't make it a bad movie or IMO, even an overrated movie.

It was nominated for both best picture and best director. Even if it didn't win, being nominated means it is supposed to stand out as one of the best examples that year. Which is obnoxious.

So your saltyness comes down to the fact that it was nominated but did not win some Oscars? You know the Oscars are a giant sham. Did you see the Oscar for Leo won? It was 2 hours of grunting and spitting. The "best" actor, actress, movie, director are more about kissing the academies ass and "deserving" it than it is about actual achievement in a particular movie.

 having an opinion is now being salty.

Saying it is overrated comes DIRECTLY from the measure by which all great films are measured. You can talk about the Oscars not meaning anything all you want, but they do provide a metric by which to measure a film.

I don't know that it is over-rated without knowing the rating to which it's being compared. I thought it was a decent flick. The story was interesting, but not a lot of deep thought into it. The visuals were amazing. One of my few beefs was how little dialogue Max had throughout the movie.
