Universal Pictures has had a lot of success with its Fast and Furious franchise. What began as a story about street racers stealing DVD players has grown into one of the most popular action franchises, and now they’re hoping to keep pushing it further.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio is planning a female-fronted Fast and Furious spinoff based around Cipher, Charlize Theron’s character from The Fate of the Furious. The franchise has already started experimenting with spinoffs, starting with Hobbs & Shaw, which will open in theaters this summer. But their ambitions sound closer to turning Fast and Furious into the next MCU-like mega-franchise.

This isn’t the first time a female-fronted installment has been reported. And with multiple potential spinoffs in development, it seems a likely possibility.

The next film in the main series, Fast and Furious 9 was originally set to hit theaters on April 19, but was pushed back a year to make room for the Hobbs & Shaw spin-off. As a result, the ninth installment will be getting a May 22, 2020 release with Justin Lin set to return to directing in the franchise, having directed four prior installments including the third through sixth installments.

I wish they rebooted this series all together but it's such a huge money maker that I don't think the studio backing these movies would be interested in losing out on a money making franchise.

I just wish they'd have done the hobbs & shaw spinoff after fast 7.... vin diesel was only semi-tolerable because paul walker was there to take the attention off of him.

Vin is just a terrible actor..he got absurdly lucky being cast in Fast 1 because the role required no actual acting, and led to a 20 year career for him

You take that back!. Not just anybody can play a babysitter for a family that has a pet duck! And what about his role as a x-gamer that the feds get to work for them! Almost like he was the first Avenger. You act like anyone can step in and fill that role........
