I feel like I'm being set up for something though. She wants something...

She was also in agreement to let me get a CTS-V (after telling her that Caddy neutered the new CT4 and CT5 V's). All without any begging, pleading, or much negotiation... "This was almost too easy..." I thought afterward.

Was it mentioned that one of the things tacked onto the bill was a pay raise for them?

While I am not jumping up and down, and cracking a champagne bottle open over it, I was just pointing out, that overall, we're not that bad here in terms of this one little piece of the pie.

Illinois doesn't charge by vehicle weight. They don't charge by vehicle value, they don't have axle charges, etc...
How many vehicles do you register every year ?

I'm still looking towards Dyer myself.
As I said when the fat slob won!!
I didn't know I would pick up a contract for doing down town and north, plus Romeoville, O'hare area projects.
I was hoping I got the Will county work, but that has been delayed.
So to save all the extra driving I've been dealing with the POS liberals money schemes at least this season

Somehow I missed this one going through. This is actually a pretty nasty tax depending on the value of what you're trading in...

Beginning in 2020, a new law signed by Gov. J.B. Pritzker will apply Illinois’ sales tax to any traded-in vehicle’s worth over $10,000. That means trading in a $30,000 car for one worth $60,000 will cost the customer an extra $1,200 in additional sales taxes.

Not sure how this got passed and how people are not screaming about it. How can you double dip on tax like this and it be 100% legal? Tax when I buy it and taxed when I return it, and then taxed again on the new car purchase?

Obviously it must somehow be ok and legal but seriously?

What would be funny is if car dealers said ok “your car is worth $10 dollars for trade in. But we are also giving you this 9,000 dollar trade bonus credit on your vehicle.”

Tax the $10 dollars and the rest is just a “trade in bonus” from the dealership lol

You don't get the tax offset on the new car though...unless they also built that into the "trade in bonus"

This one is going to hose me and my brother! He works for crooked H corp, we buy his demo's and trade in our previous year model, usually breaking even, sometimes even dealer paying us, but now when we trade in (starting Jan 1st) I'm going to have to pay taxes on $20k for our $30k car trade-in. F-that. So we'll likely do one more trade-in this year and our gravy train of deals on a new ride are ending. Sucks because he does the same thing personally. He said his dealers are beyond pissed, as you'd expect.

That's not exactly how it will work. You'll just receive a tax offset worth no more than $10k, vs the current offset which is full value of the trade.

Scenario:
So you buy a vehicle for $50k, pay tax on $50k
6 months later trade that vehicle in for $40k value on a $100k new vehicle. You'll only receive credit off your new vehicle purchase for $10k vs the $40k you would have previously gotten. So you'll pay tax on $90k instead of $60k.
Then the dealer resells your trade in for $45k and the new buyer pays full tax on that (assuming no trade-in)

So basically every single dealership vehicle sale (new or used) will receive no more than a $10k tax offset, regardless of trade value. So the same car will be taxed every time it's sold, minus a possible exemption. It's not a 1-for-1 nor is it simple because values are all over the place and change with each transaction, so the best way to think of it is a trade-in tax cap (which was previously uncapped)

Dealers have to be pretty mad, this can be big dollars for expensive vehicles

There was a very, VERY simple way to avoid all of this: Not vote Pritzker.

But hey, Illinoisans deserve everything that they voted for in this fat pile of shit.

Nice clarification. I was having trouble picturing how this would work, but this makes perfect sense.

This could be thousands of dollars! Total joke!
