Default Democratic Candidates 2020 thread

I think this will probably fail due to it all getting shoved in to the Trump Thread, but you can't blame a guy for trying.

I'll start out with Eric "Nuke em if they won't give up the guns" Swalwell. Considering how badly he's getting ratioed I really wonder if his candidacy is over before it even started.

I've never seen ratio that high. Dude is getting piled on.

He's so stupid. Must have gotten elected in Cali. by his pretty boy looks.

Brain cells die when you listen to him talk.

If you can find pros, post them up. Infrastructure, drug costs are a couple of topics where I think DEMS and REPS could find common ground.

Man, pedo joe and crazy Bernie are really bad options for the dems. Biden is about as unimpressive as it gets, and videos of him kissing little girls on the head and sniffing their hair wonít go over well.

Nobody is going to want Bernieís tax increases.

They donít really have any other options though

I approve of this thread...

I originally asked if we should have it and have just been piling shit into the Trump thread, but I think this deserves it's own thread.

They just needed to find a blue collar democrat and they're all just rushing to the left to see who can make that part of their base happy. I have a feeling itll backfire horribly.

I think creepy uncle Joe is their best shot at winning, but he obviously comes with some baggage...but in the grand scheme, his baggage almost seems light in comparison to others, while rest are just too inexperienced or down right awful to have a legitimate shot.

Unless there is some ridiculous surprise nominee, I don't really expect the Dems to put a really solid foot forward. Reps just need to sort of sit on the status quo at this point, Dems are doing a fine job of fucking everything up, all on their own.

Will the progressives be okay with a old white man besides Bernie?

He's supposed to announce tomorrow and then have a rally at a Pittsburgh Union Hall.... Smart move on his part, but we'll see where it goes. His numbers have been dropping like a rock lately since the "inappropriate contact" stories have been coming out, and I'm betting there will be more of them once he actually gets into the race.

I think because he ran with Obama, the progressives would accept him. But hey, who knows. The creepy uncle aspect definitely would be an issue, but I think other politicians have overcome worse...it definitely doesn't help

I think Joe would be the best shot of winning the election. I legitimately see Trump having a leg down on him even though the gap is closing. The dude has rust belt appeal and those are MUST WIN states for Trump. As in I think he could crush it in WI, MI, PA and a few other similar states. Perhaps Florida. He has to get into the hot seat to make it happen though.

Personally I don't see him being "creepy" as an issue. There are people that are going to see him being "creepy" as a turn off but that's not going to be most moderates who are 1-Used to hearing about this for years and 2-It's getting out of the way now so it will have minimal impact during the election.

Now then, age may be an issue that gets played up some but considering we've been having 1 foot in the grave, nursing home candidates for the last couple election cycles take the lead on both sides I really wonder if it's considered an issue.

Another thought that was pointed out though is the idea that the candidates that historically have won have had to appeal to both a progressive base and a more mainstream, moderate base. Carter, Clinton and Obama did this. Arguably Obama did it the best but Bill was a legend in his own right in that regard IMO.

Biggest problem for the white, male candidates is they are white, male candidates.

Far left progressives and feminists may not vote for a white male candidate.

I would say it would be better to swing to the moderates than the far left. They'll swallow the bitter pill because of Trump just like the right swallowed the Trump pill in '16 based on the idea of "Never Hillary" and they'll do it now just the same.

What's amusing to me is the mayor of South Bend Indiana that's running. In comparison he's not way too out there but he's having to "me too" about being gay so he can get enough intersectionality points to win the primary. Then again he's hitting on Pence which is an easy target for him at some levels. I'm just not sure if that's going to be enough experience to get in.

I would usually agree that the "inappropriate touching" wouldn't be that big of a deal and could easily be downplayed, but the #metoo landscape is a lot different...court of public opinion and public shaming is really coming down hard...I mean, stalwart's of Hollywood that had tons of power and influence are ghosts now. He didn't beat off into a plant or fondle PA's (that we know of) but the fact that more than a few people have come out, and people are rallying behind them is not a good sign.

My fiance did meet him years ago, and she did say the he did not smell her hair or touch her inappropriately

His benefit is that it's happening NOW. People's attention spans are about 45 minutes. Maybe an hour and a half tops. We have over 18 months to go till the election. He just needs to get through the primary. Not only that but "he touched me" is different than "he touched naughty bits."

Very good points. I expect that they'll rear back around come primary time, and if he gets through that, the Reps will hit him hard with it
