ANY job that can be automated will be automated, period. I'm more concerned AI is going to force us into some form of universal basic income.

What is not good about raising min wage here is this effects the entire state. Think of small town bumble, Illinois. $15/hour is going to crush these already struggling local economies. It will force small businesses to raise prices of goods and services, cut working hours, and/or just bankrupt them out of Illinois.

AI is far superior at Data processing then we are and can do it drastically faster.

Xray technicians are another job to be knocked out soon by AI...turns out computers are much better at analysing grayscale and can see more greys then the human eye...and does it drastically faster with higher accuracy

Yeah...think there are a few that are higher than D214. I have a few buddies, and a room-mate from college on that list!

Yeah have a couple former classmates from Prospect on that list...

Former track coach and SPED teacher, and a guy I've somewhat kept in contact with is at $143K

Another former track coach, and major douche/idiot is at $118K

Not a fan to be honest, but we can't compare it to when we were teens working in high school because our costs weren't what they are now.

I think back when I was in high school, minimum wage was $3.25 or maybe $3.50 per hour. Now, I don't have an itemized breakdown of my expenses as a 16 - 18 y/o, but off the cuff, a gallon of gas for the cruising vessel was well under a $1.00. Insurance was cheap, registration was $30 or $40 a year, I didn't have a cell phone (or other constant connected "mobile device") as that technology was in it's infancy. So my $3.25 went probably further than what it does today.

Also depends on how old you are...when I was in high school minimum wage was 5.25 something, and really accounting for inflation, it's only a few dollars more at most (2002 to 2018)

I'm sure I'm out of touch with what minimum wage got me back in the 90's versus what it gets you today. I bet it's disproportionately unfavorable. But I never once thought of making a career of it and supporting a family working at Osco for $4.70/hr. It was just money for gas and entertainment expenses of a teenager.

As of a couple years ago, a similarly aged guy I worked with was still there stocking shelves. This is going back to 1994. I was blown away that he made it his full-time gig. I feel like that's another danger with giving people a little more than minimum wage. It might sway people from ever moving onto better paying jobs. It's like welfare.

Things I expect from this:
-Contract work will become more popular e.g. piece work
-People will continue the trend of moving out of state due to inflation
-prices on stuff will obviously go up
-more kiosks, less employed people
-People who are making above minimum wage but less than 15/hr will not get ahead just like every other minimum wage hike.

In short the continued hollowing out of the state.

Would you be upset being condemned to a 2-5% raise every year with no chance to earn significant pay bumps through your career?

well. i mean. i dont disagree with your example buuuuttttt

my buddy is there and has been a firefighter for 5 years. so. more power to him of course, it's fucking awesome he's clocking that out per year and going on multiple week to two week vacays per year.

definitely my fault for not understanding pensions and how this state is run at a younger age. fuck me.

Honestly if I went to 4+ years of school I’d settle for nothing less than 150k a year, of course you have to pick a career path to get you there

Another trend we are seeing is a growth in the gig based economy. Uber/lyft, food delivery, dog waking, fiver, grocery delivery, etc, etc.

Jobs shifting that direction is going to create its own problem without having some sort of socialized medicine and retirement income.

Id rather these people get paid more than they are now, but you're on your own like everyone else when it comes to retirement. These public pensions are killing the state, pay them more and let them 401K like millions of other people.

Might be fine and dandy for a high school or maybe a college student, but I sure as hell couldn't live on 30K a year. I mean MAYBE I could, but I wouldn't.

Generally those charts are only base salaries, and don't include extracurricular activities

im trying my best to find data to back me, but im 99% sure in my humble bullshit opinion that bachelors degree level employees making 150k per year or more are an extremely minute percentage.
