I may be wrong but aren’t returns only different this year because they tweaked the withholding tables to be closer to pay perfect taxes? So yea your return is less, but your paychecks are larger....

I see @GLADIATOR has now stopped answering to everyone in this thread, even the ones that got boned just as much as him, but chose to figure out "why" instead of blaming others. This definitely doesn't help advocate for anyone justifying using a professional accountant...

I am waiting for official numbers when tax season is over. I have seen several articles about the topic which also say itís inconclusive yet but the main beef is itemized deductions not available anymore. Most have passed judgement on me regardless. As the numbers come in we can debate in a couple of months again.

Just heard from my accountant that I'll owe $5,900 this year to the Fed, but I made $61k more than last year, so I'm not even mad, not to mention the addl $500/mo in our paychecks combined, and I didn't give the .gov an interest free loan because fuck them.

Just finished my taxes....

I’m getting a smaller refund. Fuck you Trump!

I’m getting noticibly more each week though that more than covers the slightly smaller return, so I’m actually ahead each year....

I must be a 1%er or something.

Just wanted to be one of those morons bitching about a smaller refund even though I’m actually getting to keep more of my money.

I've only had my accountant plug some of my estimates into the system but right off the bat I'm told I'm eligible for a deduction of 20% as a small business owner. The TCJA is also helping me big time as it is now possible to write off 100% of the cost of a heavy vehicle in the first year.

I've always preferred to pay money on tax day rather than get a big refund. Why give the gov't a free loan?

Just took a brief look at 2017 wages and fed taxes compared to 2018.

I made a little over $3700 more in 2018 than 2017. In 2018, I got about $10 extra per paycheck and I paid about $400 LESS than 2017 in Federal taxes. If I were to have filed the way I normally did (Married-Filing Separate), I would have gotten HALF of what I got in 2017.

Since I like running numbers and there's different circumstances, I filed jointly with my wife this year. This amounted to a huge refund this year. BUT, it comes with a higher than average chance of audit, and we couldn't file until Feb 7th, the earliest since there were forms that needed to be released still. She owns a corporation in which we closed and by closing it out showed a loss in 2018. That follows through (S-Corp) to her K1, and took off a HUGE portion of our taxable income.

Only problem right now is waiting on status updates for the refund from both state and federal. Filed the evening of Feb. 7th, and we are still waiting.

Saturday my brother and sister in law came over. They brought up how they did their taxes. More per check, less of a refund but still a small refund, and less money taken overall throughout the year in taxes.

But THEIR REFUND WAS LESS OMGZ TRUMPS PLAN FAILED!!

I just saw two articles this morning from the MSM stating exactly this. This is what they want people to believe.

All of the MSM articles are blasting the tax cuts for smaller refunds...go on and on about how poor middle class Bob got half the refund this year vs last year.

Then at the very end of the article, they all put a sentence that the majority of people actually paid less overall taxes because of this new plan, they just have a smaller refund due to the change in withholding tables.

They dont believe it sucks. I was just being sarcastic. They are plenty happy paying less and giving the government less of a loan to collect interest on. That comment was more or less for the couple in here that pay someone to rip them off. :AOC:

So i guess the legit situations that are paying more in taxes and receiving less of a refund even after bringing more on weekly paychecks should just STFU and accept that we got screwed? Sorry, I will not. Thatís why I created this thread. And I am not the only one according to my scientifically accurate poll.

You do realize your "accurate" poll doesn't actually give the option that most people might be experiencing- that they got less of a refund yet actually paid less in taxes throughout the whole year right? I think people are looking at this poll/thread just like the MSM is spinning it, but not focusing on the bigger picture- how did you fare for your return, not overall burden/payment. At least the choices of options for the poll lead responses that way...

Here I thought this was done, but back to trolling you go lol

I am not trolling anyone. This is a legit topic. I am trying to keep it ďinterestingĒ but if you want an exact specific poll, you can make one too? Like i said earlier, I think this topic will be better off suited to be discussed, anal-ized, and argued once tax season is over and actual data surfaces. What I can argue is this, once the real numbers arrive, there will be a percentage like me that lost out. Whatever the percentage is, say5,10,20,or 30% thatís 5,10,20,30% too many that will have been negatively affected.

Let's say it turns out that 30% were negatively affected because they live in stupid high tax states that they're no longer able to write everything off.

Let's say another I dunno, 20% saw no difference and their rate remained the same for some reason.

Then we will say the remaining 50% ended up like many of us, and although our return is lower, we actually came out ahead because we get more money each week...

In this instance, the tax changes would have been a positive for the majority.

Just because you're getting taxed out the wazzoo by Illinois and were writing off everything under the sun doesn't mean that the changes weren't good for a majority of Americans.

If memory serves, the majority of Americans (myself included) take the standard deduction, and there's no doubt that amount went up with the new tax plan.

I'm coming out ahead in the new deal, I guess Im a 1% Mar-A-Lago golf playing, MAGA hat wearing, Trump nut swinger now.

Lost out? Lmao, oh man- You mean like the 70, 80, 90, 95% on the other side of your same coin that were negatively affected on their 2017 taxes in relation to 2018 with the new tax law?

Not only do you continue to not try to understand or comprehend the changes and look at the big picture, you then try to spin it the other way that a small percent are negatively affected. Someone always gets dumped on, not everyone is gonna win.

In your specific case, writing off a shitload of stuff, you were actually having others be the ones sort of carrying your tax burden based on your job and living situation, but here you are looking for sympathy from those same people. If anyone gets to be angry here, it would be the ones who DON'T get 10k back but have similar salaries and now your loop hole has closed- aka the tax market realigned.

My return was about 3/4 of last year's. Seeing as I didn't buy a house in 2018 like I did in 2017 and I had to 1099 a decent amount, I'm happy.

I think Gladiator needs a new accountant? How could he possibly pay a higher tax rate? His standard deduction went UP. What part of the tax law increased his tax burden? Anybody have any ideas?

Did you fucking bitch and moan when the Bush tax cuts expired in 2010? Probably not, because the media led you to believe that "The Bush tax cuts are rich people tax cuts!" when in reality, he cut taxes for everyone.
