Default Educate me on Tvs

Thinking of upgrading my TV. currently got a 42in tv. Thinking of upgrading to a 55in or 65in. Anyone got any tips? Recommendations (positive OR negative)?

I have about $400-600 to spend.

Don't buy anything that isn't 4k. Try and get HDR as well. For your price range, TCL or Vizio. Use rtings.com to research

What about refresh rate? How important is that? 60Hz? 120Hz?

I was at Best Buy & Target about two months ago looking at TVs and both sales Guys told me that TCL were the best bang for buck TVs out there at the moment- Especially under $1000. Also was looking at 65'' but of course they were sold out of TCL TVs in both stores. Still haven't bought a TV yet so interested in responses. Hopefully I can snag one up in the next few weeks.

Don't worry about that. Hit up rtings and read up on the TCLs.

I have both a standard 60Hz TV and one that does 240Hz.

The 240Hz TV is very noticeably smoother when motion is occurring on the screen (which is basically all the time).

4k is definitely nice but it's HDR that really makes the difference.

Unless you're buying a LG oled, LG sucks.

How are Sony's anymore? I've kinda gotten out of hte loop on TV's over the past few years, but have always had Sony's including my 55" downstairs, and then the 40 something inch up in the family room. The only TV I haven't bought that was a Sony was a cheapo Toshiba for Christmas one year for my Son so he could have the Xbox in his room.

Sony's OLED are REALLY good (they use LG panels) and its argued their image processor is far superior to LG...however, you are paying a mega premium over the LG OLED. Like almost double, which is ridiculous.

I dont have much experience with the other ones. Tho, I have to buddies that bought lower end Sony 4k/HDR units and they love them.

Honestly, your best bet is to browse rtings.com and read their reviews and "best of" lists.

Ok. I think once I narrow something down, mainly size wise, then I'll start comparing individual units.

I bought a sony LED and for the money i spent i could have gone LG OLED...

but the "new tech" "freaked me out " and i went elsewhere.

i really like the android platform my tv uses.
