Not upset, with emotion or a complaint. This thread asks for recommendations.

Consider respecting feedback when solicited as compared to undermining it (which we have recognized as an enrooted problem with this site).

With a phone, from your comments, I assume you are forced to look at every thread? I don't use my phone to surf the site so I don't know how it works.

If this is the case, Putting certain sub forums into non Live Feed mode seems to be a good answer. As mentioned, people would then have the option of clicking into them without being forced to see politics, food, guns or whatever else that is not car related. How about if the entire General Discussion sub forum was excluded from Live Feed? Would that help lower the unwanted phone traffic, guys? I think it would cut your phone pings way down. If you want into the General Forum, you could still use New Posts or the Forum buttons.

Thoughts?
99% of my browsing is done from my phone using new posts. It’s what I’m used to and only use the TCG app if I’m posting photos.

If that doesn't solve the issue amicably, you escalate. If escalation was required, rather than calling on your favorite mod to make a decision, call it to a vote by calling out the content in a new thread and putting a poll up. Any more than say 5 votes in favor of content being racist and content is removed by a mod. There's always the chance that a mod steps in before that thread needs to happen, but at least this gives everyone a chance to call something to everyone's attention and the group decides how to handle it.

Obviously this could be abused and would need moderator common sense applied, but could possibly work?
I probably should've PM'd more? I know if it was something blatant, I always just fell back to the mods, but that's asking a lot of you guys, and I guess I never fully realized the tough situations you guys were put in. Definitely not an enviable place.

I think the PSA thread has empowered (hopefully) others to speak up, when they see something, and rally around as needed. I like to believe that we made a lot of strides with that thread, and that the policy you described wouldn't be necessary as we could police ourselves. Obviously it remains to be seen, but I am hopeful

TCG is a lot of work, even with the small handful of events that are put on. Lots of that effort, while its appreciated in the moment, gets quickly forgotten whenever the most recent rant occurs and complaints start. That just adds to the "work" feeling that someone has to carry as an admin/mod around here. Tough to swallow that pill day in and day out when it seems like the work goes unappreciated. Also makes it tougher to put in more work for more events.

Not focusing this on you at all John, just replying in general I guess.

I'm not undermining anything, I just greatly disagree with you, and frankly when I see people complain about post length, I don't speak up frequently enough.

I think some of you are confusing the word "racism" with "bad humor"

The only person i've seen on here be blatantly racist just got the permabanhammer.

I'm really liking the feedback and Currently Active User count. Proves that a lot of people still consider this place an important destination. Keep em coming. And on topic.

Does anyone know the people who left in real life? Would be curious to get more of their feedback on why they left. I'm sure some of them just had life take them away, but I'm sure a few had legit gripes as well.

You can focus on me. I have very thick skin and am strangely married to this site.

Also I have offered to help and come through so I get that.

And I admin-ed a large car forum for quite some time so I know.

I can tell you I left for 80% life reasons (job became too involved and time demanding) and 20% forum reasons (as described before; I didn't leave because of the issues, but it made leaving that much easier.)

Quite a few things to list that I think will just be ignored or responded to in a manner that deviates from actually taking in the feedback and most likely providing an unreasonable solution.

@Kensington - Just curious, but, did you have another user name prior to the one you have now? Currently, you just joined in August of 2017 based on the account you're posting on, but, speak as if you've been around for many a year.

Yeah, I had a previous username that unbeknownst to me was infamous (see first couple of pages of PSA thread)? At first I left my alter ego somewhat secretive (Eagle and Mook knew, and a few figured it out pretty quick). I just wanted to leave that name and persona behind, and start anew.

Understood man. Wasn't sure, but, I do remember you as a member.

Why do people call you a liberal and what have you?

Personally, I hate politics and titles people put on others, but, at the same time, I too pass judgement if someone judges me for something as well.

I liked to think I added to the forum and discussions. Apparently I had more of an impact than I realized.

Like I mentioned before, I lean left of moderate. I am by no means a Democrat, but the forum has shifted pretty far right. We had a couple of nutjob leftists (Genxist and maybe another) way back that made us moderates look like, well, moderates. But they've come and gone, and the left leaning moderates became the nutjob liberals.

Gotcha.

I'll be honest, no clue what most of these terms actually mean and how they apply to people, I.E. Moderate, Leftist, etc.

Wife and I stay away from politics since we see what it can do to people that don't share the same beliefs.

God forbid we ask folks to consider landing the plane when drafting a rambling post.

As seen, some members even ask for “cliffs”.

I could imagine some are already skipping over the novels.

Again, this thread is soliciting feedback.
