Curious if he has any grounds for a lawsuit for unlawful termination?

I would say I doubt it but then again an illegal alien just was awarded a shit ton of money in California.... But this guys views don't really line up with the courts there.

Interesting read from psychologists about what he said. 3/4 of them agree with him, and 1 largely agrees with him. Not the shut down that Google was really looking for I suspect.

Wikileaks offered him a job too. Man, talk about keeping your friends close and your enemies closer.
iirc the CEO of allstate would go eat breakfast in the cafeteria and often by himself, i think errybodies was too scared to sit with him. it's been a long time since i've been there so i can't recall if i just heard this or saw it myself, i'm pretty sure i did in fact witness this though. i wouldn't have been afraid to do this, although in my role, and also not actually being an employee there, i didn't really have much to say.

There was a guy who worked at Allstate that helped modernize their infrastructure. He did a speech at Clound Foundry Summit that's on google and fucking amazing.

It was kind of unspoken you didn't casually socialize with your management at EMC at least on the service side. They say it's lonely at the top. I'd believe it.

When I was with EMC doing service work, I stopped and had a conversation with a person during an outage to give status, and take a break. I talked with him for about 15 minutes. As it turns out he was the CIO of the company, worth probably $10B+ as an educated guess (household name.) He was super modest about it, and great to talk to.

I would say the most interesting one I met besides that was a CIO/consultant who would go around to companies, spend a few years cleaning them up, installing a new CIO to run the operation and move on the next one every few years. It's an utterly fascinating idea to me, especially considering I think of my self in the remediation business.

that would be fun for sure, to really come in and kick ass and make things run like they should.

i must have been allstate pre-that guy, i would describe the data warehouse at the time as painful and in need of work. i'm not sure how much they really addressed that vs. just built something off to the side to meet their needs. they're a pretty big hadoop shop in the chicagoland area now, maybe even the biggest? which probably means spark and other cool stuff now too.

I dunno, I don't take it for a lot. You're talking less than 10 people out of a company with tens of thousands of employees. That said, the idea that the people at the top appear to have little issue with actually creating an echo chamber is disturbing yet unsurprising to me. I could easily see some founders being the next Soros personalities of the world. The fact they can make something almost disappear off the Internet should unto its self be very disturbing to all of us.

Oh, I just wanted to point out that @Eagle needs to consider polling questions a bit more carefully. Yes indeed, I do or do not agree with the manifesto, just like I typically do or do not agree with most any topics I am not indifferent on.

Yeah.... you're right. I was probably doing too many things when I made the poll, or left and came back to it and forgot how I worded the Q. My bad!

Very interesting interview, my take aways are:
1)He's actually trying to look out for the best interest of Google and he didn't plan on getting shitcanned over it.
2)He's a centrist perhaps to Libertarian.
3)He is not a brilliant orator, but bases his foundation on rationality and logic just like the document he wrote.
4)He ends with an appeal for empathy from the other side, and for the other side.

Doesn't strike me like the way the MSM has portrayed him by any means, certainly not one to go on a "screed."

ED:4chan troll could have actually did what he said IMO and it could have had the results indicated.

reading that just toally reminded me of something actually ---

the niche database i'm a DBA of now, i was actually a really early user of. and by that i mean probably one of the first like 20 people in the world actually the product. i had been using it for a year and was just starting to teach a female coworker some of it, although she was mostly just a user like anyone for any database.

google bought one, and google reached out to her. she had absolutely zero interest in leaving the company though. she told me i should hit them up, iirc female hr recruiter was her contact. i got no response whatsoever. this was probably in 2005 or 2006. probably not any pc girls only drive nonetheless it seems a strange situation to not give me the time of day.

i have one buddy there now that works in the omaha datacenter. another buddy who is a smarty programmer who just took a job and is moving to nyc, will be working on some video stuff.

I think you'll find that most people that brilliant are a little "odd" and I don't necessarily mean that in a bad way.

I think my issue is them throwing in front of us their sexuality, the parts they have, and their social justifications in our face.
