I really like the club and respect and appreciate what Mike has put into it. Since joining in 07 back when Mustangs were looked down upon, it was hard to talk to people at meets since they were already friends or hated Mustangs and wanted nothing to do with the owners. Since then, I've met some cool guys that are car guys and not brand loyal brats. There is the usual trolling crowd here, but I find most of it hilarious and entertaining.

I also find that there are informative things here I don't find on any other forum. Not to mentioned @Mook finally created a detailing section which is a main interest in my life now and I can share my knowledge and also learn new things I've never tried from others.

All in all, I'm here for the long haul and hope to make it out to more events.

Here are my thoughts on the entire situation. Every forum goes through this. People get pissed off and leave. Unfortunately, it's 2016, not 2006. Back in the day, when somebody would leave, 4 more newbies would come to take their place and at least 1 or 2 would become contributing members. Now, when people leave, there's nobody to take their place. Forums are dying and unfortunately I don't think there's anything that can be done.
Guess who's back likes this.

i enjoy TCG because most members are local and it's nice to know there are some local guys available to assist with many things.

cars, home remodeling, HVAC, technical / electronics etc

as others have said, I am on vehicle specific forums too but I mostly use them for references and technical info.

i don't go to the off topic section of the frontier forum or LS1tech

of the few members I have met in person, zero problems here

i'm a sarcastic person, so when a post is meant to be so, i normally include a smiley with it to make sure others know the intention.

"tone" is very difficult to express in "text"

I've been working on this. Trying to parter with a unique shop in Wisconsin for a tour, then bbq, Kettle Moraine trail, home. Waiting for dates from the shop.

Enjoy reading everyone's thoughts. Keep em coming. They won't fall on deaf ears.

The best advice I can give to anyone who is upset about the internet is:

Take a step back from your computer/tablet/smartphone and relax. On local forums a lot of us know eachother. Conversations that get heated on the forum are probably conversations that wouldn't happen if we were all standing around BS'ing in a parking lot at a meet/cruise night. When posting on the forums, I try to keep the thoughts to myself that I wouldn't say out loud in person with a group of people. It's too easy to let loose with comments on the internet.

In any case, I'm not active enough on this forum to have any idea what the complaints are.

I have zero filter. If I say it here I'd say it to you in person. Or if I don't like you. I put you on the pay no mind list forever.

I'm to old to deal with anyone's bullshit anywhere. Work, family, socially, Internet.

I guess you can say I'm a no fucks given kinda guy at most times.

as much as I give everyone a hard time and overly stupid posts, fundamentally its gearheads vs the universe

we have a lifestyle that celebrates power with the thin veneer of control that rustles our adrenalin jimmies.

its a bell curve of enthusiasts

I learned my shit from bugging old farts wrenching on their shit while on my Schwinn, thankfully military housing gave me a high concentration of people to annoy with questions.

absent that id figure the modern twerps gotta find an alternative.

I don't post a ton. I'm a moderate poster.

There are people here I like. People I don't like. So be it. Such is life.

I'd like to make it out to meets more than the zero I've been to, but work has me very busy.
I am making it to @Eagle meet Friday. Seems pretty awesome of a member to invite people to his house just because and to have a good discussion.

I am by far not a go and put myself out there kinda guy at meets. But never had a bad time at Luke's or doggie diner.

As far as the terminology used. I don't care either way. I don't think anyone here is a white supremacist, kkk member , black panther member or any other group you can think of.
Hate to break your hearts. Stereotypes exist because they are true.

You can make a new thread, " the official positive about everything thread"

I can't control what members discuss in the bored thread. I haven't even been in there much the past month because of the time spent on the car.

speaking of the car, You and Joel have no problems questioning my every move / post / whatever. you guys are entitled to your opinions and I respond as honest and straight forward as possible.

I find it to be borderline trolling. If you don't like or agree with what I or some other members do with their vehicles then maybe its best to not make questionable remarks.

I see your signature says you own BRZ, not really my cup of tea but hey whatever you want.

Some members on here go through cars like others go through underwear... Does this mean I make poor comments ? No. it's their money and whatever they choose to do is their choice.

I stay out of the political and current event threads because everyone has an opinion / viewpoint. Its bad enough this shit exists, I don't need to read everyone's comments.

I can see how I'm annoying, but usually am seriously curious to why you do some things. I just come off like a dick most of the time.

Also I do have a BRZ which I haven't posted about really because it's a good daily for the money I spent, but it's not super exciting and I know it's not many peoples cup of tea. I would also totally expect people to question why the fuck I got it, I'm just excited it's not a minivan.

Absolutely, BUT people also have a knack for knowing when to joke and when to be serious. This is serious thread in serious section. Yes people have made small jokes, in their paragraph thread. You made one sentence about someones wife. As stated in a later quote, its very hard to read tone in text. Was that a personal jab? Was it a joke? Im sure a few people know but the large body as a whole doesnt. Its things like that that turn people off on certain topics, users, if not the whole site. I personally dont think you meant ill will, but I also dont know the whole story either.

I am also in the same boat. I never "owned a real" car if I compared my cars to other members here. I came before the buyout of a car specific site and was kind of a big deal there. I didnt have the fastest, but I knew things and had been around and seen things for that platform. Shit, I talked an entire weekend away with Chris Green from OH about his MP112 build, while in OH for an IDD, and cams and all this other bullshit. But that equates to two things when you go away from model specific sites. Jack and shit. Then I started caring less and didnt keep up with the platform and know basic stuff, while retaining old information. So I became pretty insignificant and felt useless to adding knowledge, (even though people still claim very silly things like ICs suck and rubber cupcake thingies can be used as a gasket. Ok pal) This personally is why I didnt want to come to events anymore. All I had was a DD. No fun cars on the horizon for me for awhile, and thats ok.

The non car stuff and the people that I interact with here is the reason why I came back. More on that in a minute.

First off, thanks to those who have reached out to me to see what I have been up to. Super cool of you to make sure I'm not dead.

Second yes Phil and I had a classy orgy at Coopers Hawk and it was hilarious because Phil. Can't want to drink and pretend to be sophisticated again soon.

I even saw the man the myth the legend from Colorado last month. Joel rescued his buick and I was there to be a part of if. Which was awesome.

I got busy, priorities happened, I'm probably going to be out of a job in the future (don't cry for me argentina), and like others have said this place pissed me off enough that I said fuck it. I guess you could say I took LikeABauce302's advice.

Truth is I care about this club more than I should, which is probably why it angers me so much. Getting agitated about the internet is a shitty way to go through life so I just stopped. Mike you know what the last straw was because I PM'd you and I never received a response. I am not saying I was expecting one but there you go.

I do miss posting on this place from time to time, but generally I just find my life simpler not worrying about checking every classified thread since only a few people actually care that the rules are enforced. It sucks when you have work hard on something and don't have the support of your co-workers.

Phil is correct I still lurk pretty regularly though I do read less. I agree the vibe has changed and I just don't know what it is, or maybe I changed?? 35 is coming up quick....hmmm.... The racism is an issue with me, EDIT: bigotry is in the same boat. Trolling has probably gone too far and as a contributor to that I apologize.

In closing I'm just busier and as such something had to give. TCG Tour Fo Lyfe

OH and James, I hate you too buddy!

mic drop - emerballs out
I wanted to touch on the trolling part for a second. I feel like I have met quite a few people on here, and we were all good. You and Joel ( @ilikebmx999 ) I am singling out for a very quick second.

You two I feel are prime reasons I started flipping out a couple years ago. We have met in person. I feel every interaction was positive. I had even found some old school Buick metal signs and contacted Joel and asked if he wanted one. We always had good interactions in person. Then online, I started getting shat on, and you guys were some of the front runners and Joel was getting pretty personal, which got me good. If someone I thought I was cool with was getting that personal towards me, how are people I just meet going to be? Why would I put myself through that? I dont need that shit in my life. No one needs it in their life. So that and I think an e-argument with @Mike K is what set me off and I said bye Felicia and was out.

More on that when I get to my meat and potatoes.

I want to apologize for being part of that group. At the time, I really really really felt you were trying to be an attention whore, and was all look at me. I get now you were excited and just wanted to share, which is cool. Thats what we are doing here. Sharing info, experiences, a good time. However, I want you to look at Kevin's Regal thread, or Greasy's Mustang thread. One thread. About the same car. They are hella long. Its all good. You at one time had half of the auto section covered with multiple threads about the same car, and its just an eye sore, and I am realizing now I am OCD about certain things and like organization. Put it in one thread. I think that was my big thing. So maybe I should have voiced it better.

100000000 percent true. I think we are not getting the tone of what people are saying, so it is lost in translation. Like Rich's comment before. It was meant to be a joke, but it got lost in the seriousness of this thread, and maybe more should have been added, or saved for later after Emerson posted. Tact and tone is very important when speaking in person, and I feel everyone has more of it in person instead of on the internet.

Now for the main event. The WTF is Fish going to bitch about now. Ill be honest. I feel my gripes will be taken with the entire salt shaker, if at all, but please read it out.

Its no secret. I came from another site (ILGPC), which overtook another site (CGPC) so I am no stranger of hostile takeovers. At the peak of ILGPC, I felt it was fucking awesome and never wanted it to change. I knew most of the regulars, met most of the regulars, hung out on the weekends with a handful of people and even made treks to different states for racing and social events. We truly lived to the mantra of "My drinking team has a racing problem" stickers we had on our cars, and members from other states started hiding booze when they saw Abe Lincolns face on license plates.

As the years went by, members got older, didnt have their car anymore. It was more of a social thing. Then that started going downhill as well. I started coming here before ILGPC officially closed shop. When that happened I worked a shitty ass schedule and didnt have the ability to come to lots of meets. I did come to a meet at a restaurant in Schaumburg one night and officially met a few people including Mook. I had no issues and had a decent time. I then made things work one Thursday and came to Lukes. Lukes was kinda weird. I had met a few people before, but as stated, it was very clicky. I walked around and talked to people, but I didnt want to be the little dog nipping at peoples heels so I chalked it up to being the "new guy". Being on the opposite end in the past, I know how it feels when new guys come. You kinda have to gauge who they are and are they dickheads and so on and so forth.

Whats funny is my most fun and honest "meet" from here is when a bunch of us went to Article II and were shooting. Everyone was friendly, we were passing around guns, just all around bullshitting. I was even hamming it up with @NetChemica who we had blows online in the past. Which brings me to another point. Everyone is different online. I am not excluded. I always tried to "prove" myself even though at the end of the day, I have nothing to prove. What do I, or any of us gain by trying to show what we have? I dont want to be friends with someone because they have a 9 second Vette. I want to be friends with people I can relate to and have a good time with, and I think everyone is the same way. People need to feel they fit in somewhere to be part of the community. If they dont fit, then they arent part of the group, then why bother staying?

Ego plays a big part as well. Lots of people, including senior members, have displayed ego and that can turn people off to the site. Tact and tone. People. Tact and tone. I know Ive heard people say "Im like this in real life". Great. In real life, the conversation wouldnt be hours long. It would probably be a 5 minute thing and then you would move on. When you say something out of spite, or act like an e-douche, its there. Forever. For other people not even part of the conversation to come in and read it, then proceed to label you an ass and want to either quote and say WTF, or not even want to deal with you.

When I disappeared awhile back, I was at my end with people online and in general. I was in a dark place. My family was torn apart, I made stupid decisions, and I tried to pretend shit was normal. While people went about their thing here, and I was getting tired of it. I tried trolling, I tried being nice, I tried everything under the god damn sun and couldnt make a dent or a post without being pressured in every damn thread. I had enough and just logged out. Then logged back in and changed my password to something so stupid I couldnt remember so I could never log back in because I was done with this place. I then got help, from friends and family, and sought out help as well. I am happy to say, I feel better then I have, even though I still get down on shit. However, I keep up with things, and I try to be a better person. I am happy I can also do it without medications, but even if I was on some, it would not matter. I would not be less of a person if I was. You are more of a person than anyone else if you can say you need help. We are human beings. We arent built to be alone. There are exceptions to the rule, but overall, we are a being that needs community, family, friends, not be alone. You dont have to face anything alone. /selfhelprant

Ive learned a lot in the last few years. Perception is reality. If people perceive this place, or people as douche bags, then you either are, or were at that point in time. Its not about being PC. I hate people who whine or get offended at little things. However, Ive been labeled before as a Captain save a ho by our fearless leader before because Ive called out things Ive perceived as bullshit. I do that because I felt it needed to be done and I want to see people rise above the bullshit. I have been burned so many times and have so many shitty things happen (who hasnt honestly) and yet I still want to let people in. I want to hope people can get better. I want to be a part of something here. I dont care if it was created as a car site. Its somewhere we have bullshitted about cars, games, guns, movies, TV shows, you name it.

On the opposite end of being capt save ho, Ive also trolled. Was it fun, sure. For a minute. Then you have to keep the troll going, and it gets tiresome and boring. Its so much effort to keep it going in my opinion. Probably cause Im not that kind of person. If I troll in real life, its in person, and we can laugh about it, and then you move on. Once again, its just a moment, but that moment can last days in a thread, and its there forever. Where in person it can and usually is forgotten by the next hour.

Now I am probably just rambling. Its not TCG per say, its people interacting on the internet, and it happens everywhere. Facebook, Twitter, youtube comments, fuck. Everyone here is a damn saint and will be in line to be the next pope compared to people who make youtube comments.

Basically, people need to not be afraid of change, and make time to meet people and see if you can dig this place. Or do business as usual, and check your feelings at the door and troll to your hearts content. I dont think this thread exists for the latter to happen.

First off, I WONT get into a debate with anyone over this post.

I dont frequent the site much anymore for a few reasons. Here are mine.

The first is of my own fault. I have created a reputation on this site, and no matter what I do I can't shake it. So thats my problem. But even in serious discussions, the trolls come out to try to bait me into rage posting and so on. So my problem with TCG is the lack of mods that would try to calm the trolls. It would be nice to be able to post and not be waiting for someone to jump in and take a cheap shot for the only reason to get me riled up. Again this was my doing from the start, so thats not TCGs problem. Just the lack of "Alright guys, thats enough!" or maybe deleting a complete troll post or two in order to stop the violence, would be nice.

Secondly, this is not The Chicago Garage really anymore. If I want to talk anything cars, I reserve it for FB group pages or specific forums dedicated to the cars Im talking about. This has turned more into a general hangout forum than a car forum. Sad really, but its evolved

Lastly, the run-on threads with all the inside jokes. When threads get 20, 30, 50 pages long, I don't want to read through that shit. There are lots of forums out on the net FAR bigger than this one that DO NOT ALLOW bumping of old threads. Thats a great idea. It keeps new content rolling in, and makes it easier to find. I get bored quick, and don't want to skim 50 pages to get to the lulz or info. This needs to be implemented.

Those are my thoughts.

The FRS/BRZ hate has got to stop! I don't care if you think it's underpowered. Have you driven one? Super fun to drive. Make TCG great again...stop the FRS/BRZ hate.

Build a wall to keep the hate out....

I can't be that long winded on every topic, so I will bow out to that title.

I didn't put a TL;DR in there because I feel that is part of the problem. If you want cliffs, you aren't serious about the topic and then you need to question why are you reading the thread? If the answer is to troll, you are part of the problems being addressed. Like @ZXMustang said. It's lack of "cut that shit out" that leads to things being threads being over run with comments not pertaining to the thread and things go down hill. However, argue about a truck, and OMG LEMME SPLIT THIS ASAP!

Once again though. I get it. You let something go too far, it's hard to reel it in and put it back on track and you most likely don't want to be labeled as the PC police.
