Quote:
In Orlando, a terrorist walks into a nightclub and murders nearly 50 human beings. Sons and daughters, brothers and sisters cut down in cold blood.
They did nothing wrong. They were dancing with friends, they were enjoying music with loved ones.
Why did the terrorist murder them?
Because he was driven by a fanatical hatred.
He targeted the LGBT community because he believed they were evil.
Now, the murderer wasn't alone.
Regimes and terrorist organizations around the world ruthlessly persecute the LGBT community.
In Syria, ISIS throws gays off rooftops.
In Iran, the regime hangs gays from cranes.
Too many people have remained silent in the face of this awful persecution.
This week's shooting wasn't merely an attack on the LGBT community. It was an attack on all of us, on our common values of freedom and diversity and choice.
Radical Islamist terror makes no distinction between shades of infidel.
This week it was gays in Orlando. A few days before that it was Jews in Tel Aviv. Before that it was music fans in Paris; Travelers in Brussels; Yazidis in Iraq; Community workers in San Bernardino; Christians and journalists in Syria.
All of us are targets.
We believe that all people are created in the image of God.
ISIS, by contrast, believes that all people who aren't just like them deserve to die.
We will not be terrified into submission.
We will fight back. And we will triumph.
Today I ask you to reach out to friends in the LGBT community. Comfort them.
Tell them you stand together, we stand together as one. And that you will always remember the victims.
Tell them they will never be alone, that we are all one family deserving of dignity, deserving of life.
I have no doubt that those who seek to spread hate and fear will be defeated.
Working together we will defeat them even faster.
We need to stand united, resolute in the belief that all people regardless of their sexual orientation, regardless of their race, regardless of their ethnicity, all people deserve respect, deserve dignity.

A day in the life..

Quote:
This is what makes the Quran's verses of violence so dangerous. They are given the weight of divine command. While Muslim terrorists take them as literally as anything else in their holy book, and understand that Islam is incomplete without Jihad, moderates offer little to contradict them - outside of personal opinion. Indeed, what do they have? Speaking of peace and love may win over the ignorant, but when every twelfth verse of Islam's holiest book either speaks to Allah's hatred for non-Muslims or calls for their death, forced conversion, or subjugation, it's little wonder that sympathy for terrorism runs as deeply as it does in the broader community - even if most Muslims personally prefer not to interpret their religion in this way.

Although scholars like Ibn Khaldun, one of Islam's most respected philosophers, understood that "the holy war is a religious duty, because of the universalism of the Muslim mission and (the obligation to) convert everybody to Islam either by persuasion or by force", many other Muslims are either unaware or willfully ignorant of the Quran's near absence of verses that preach universal non-violence. Their understanding of Islam comes from what they are taught by others. In the West, it is typical for believers to think that their religion must be like Christianity - preaching the New Testament virtues of peace, love, and tolerance - because Muslims are taught that Islam is supposed to be superior in every way. They are somewhat surprised and embarrassed to find that this is contradicted by the Quran and the bloody history of Islam's genesis.

Others simply accept the violence. In 1991, a Palestinian couple in America was convicted of stabbing their daughter to death for being too Westernized. A family friend came to their defense, excoriating the jury for not understanding the "culture", claiming that the father was merely following "the religion" and saying that the couple had to "discipline their daughter or lose respect." (source). In 2011, unrepentant Palestinian terrorists, responsible for the brutal murders of civilians, women and children explicitly in the name of Allah were treated to a luxurious "holy pilgrimage" to Mecca by the Saudi king - without a single Muslim voice raised in protest.

I was watching a press conference on my lunch break and it took until the Governor of FL spoke before the word terrorist attack came out of someones mouth. They all just kept calling it the "attack on Pulse", "Pulse attack", or simply "attack"....

Guessing they may be trying to change the narrative?

Since '84 to today:

77 semiauto handguns,
29 rifles,
23 revolvers,
and
22 shotguns

have been used in mass shootings.

Why do AR-15 rifles carry the burden of all these shootings? Why are they the focus?

Weapons and mass shootings - The Washington Post

Probably because its the most popular rifle out there and its easy to convince non-2A public that any black rifle is an AR15. Getting it successfully banned, despite it obviously not being the largest impact, would mean getting somewhere between 4 to 8 million rifles taken out of the US.

How about a change in narrative though.

Default Orlando shooting- 50 dead, 53 hospitalized

The integrity of the media on both sides to me is appalling. Some minor fact checking and proofreading would help. That being said, to the general non-enthusiast a MCX and AR-15 look pretty similar.

So let's say terrorists start using tacoma trucks for attacks, but the media generalizes and labels f150s as the problem because they look pretty similar.

Is it even the truck's fault? No. But that's what they go after anyway. Should the F150 be removed from the public?

I kind of sit back and see this issue as one of many as to why America is broken. The political parties are so far divided, which is on purpose btw, that the nuts on both the left and right are drowning out the middle of the road folks. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

There’s obviously an issue with guns laws not being enforced, penalties need to be stricter, background checks need to be consistent, etc. Instead of the right and left arguing, it would be interesting to get both moderate republicans and democrats together to see what they agree on. It’s sad that nothing is getting down because the power to be have divided us and continue to.

This has nothing to do with political parties and everything to do with the constitution on the discussion about guns.

Penalties are already strict, they are not enforced.

What are we attempting to discuss anyway? Firearms? Or pickup trucks? It's all a distraction unless we are discussing how to handle terrorism.

A well built truck, being necessary to perform many tasks, the right of the people to keep and drive F-series trucks, shall not be infringed.

What part of that is so hard to understand ?!?!
