Thumbs up Rear wheel hot after driving

Is it brakes or bearing? Driver's side rear only.

2003 Mitsu Montero Sport 4wd.

Parking brake is disengaged, no noise, doesn't pull, has rear discs...

Hopefully tearing into it tonight, until then I gott pull the backup outta the garage.

Thoughts?

Thanks, John

bearing would be making noise? probably a pad dragging.

I thought bearing after no weird braking but no noise so I am going back to thinking it is the brakes.

Probably something with the parking brake or bad caliper. Not sure if they are 1 in the same.

My mom took her Lexus to the dealer for a recall about 1.5 yrs ago and they said her rear calipers were frozen.

no added brake dust, no noise, no dragging... I'm sure she never noticed if the wheel was hot.
the pads weren't even worn out.

weird

I had a caliper freeze up on my pick up. You could feel the heat radiating off the wheel.

Brakes look simple enough to do:

DIY Rear Brake Rotor/Caliper Replacement | Monterosportonline.net Forum

Still looking for parking brake info. Though I am sure I will be able to take a look at it after it is apart and figure it out. They aren't that complicated.

I know it spins. It isn't that seized. Gotta be dragging lightly.

That is tonight's project. She got home late and since we have 3 cars I just left it parked.

Sex was more important that fixing the beater last night.

What I'm saying is if it's a frozen slider pin or something like that you won't be able to freely spin the wheel when it's up in the air. It won't be stuck but when you spin it it will slow down pretty quickly.

Then again, I guess if you had it up in the air you could also really easily check to see if it's the bearing so why don't you just go ahead and disregard everything I said.

That's why I'm gonna get it jacked up tonght, if Wifey lets me, and check it out.

She isn't complaining about driving the Infiniti all the time now so this might be some evil plan of hers...

I had same problem on a friends car. Who ever did the brake job on her car used after market parts. The drivers front pads got stuck. Who ever did it didn't clean the bracket use antiseize and make sure the ears on the pads slid in the bracket properly without binding up. I had to wait about an hour before i was some what able to tear it apart and figure out the problem

My Jeep Grand Cherokee had the caliper freeze on me and you could smell burning pad while driving, that rim got super hot too. Ended up ordering a new caliper and pads all around and swapping them out.

Caliper was seized up. Passenger side was fine and compressed as it should. Driver's side wouldn't compress at all so I bought a new set that is going on tonight.

There is 104k miles and 13 years on this thing with original fluid. Trust me it has gunk and funk everywhere in the system. It needs a full flush.

Oh well. When I need a new master next week I'll remind myself that James told me bot to do that after I did that. All better?
