Yesterday I went in for a "fitness assessment" at my small gym in our building. I've seen others go, but never cared to be assessed by anyone. The trainer got me to fold under what has been months of pressure to join him for PT. I knew the test was going to be a cardio workout and I HATE cardio workouts.

So the normal height weight was taken... 250# and 6' on the nose. Heavier than I've been in awhile. Then BMI and BF with that crap electronic testing deal... 35 and 27%! Whoa. Caught me off guard. We also talked about diet and how bad mine has been. Agreed to drop alky intake to 1/week and eliminate soda entirely. Not quite to calorie counting yet, but will probably get there as the program continues.

Then for the physical test: as many push-ups as possible without breaking form at all and no resting. If he thinks you break form, he cuts you off. I did 50, somewhat holding back because I knew I needed to run next. So we get on the treadmill. Everything during the test was at a 10% incline. 1.7mph/3min, 3mph/3min, then 4mph for 1 5mph for 1.... I only made it 8min5sec total. My HR was at 180 when I stopped. He said I did well, but I get my report on Friday which puts all my stats into some calc and gives me more info. Overall, I was happy as I never train cardio and only strength train (he called it power lifting).

Anyway, I now start a 2x / week private training with a gym trainer focused on cardio. I told him I want to run my first 5k this spring and do it in under 30min. He then asked if I wanted to join a Spartan team in June - I said sure get me the info. I'm sort of pumped and glad to have someone to drill cardio into my current 2-3x/wk power lifting routine.

Anywho... Anyone want to start a pool on what my weight will be by June? I was thinking $5 per bet, closest person gets the pot. In the event of a tie, the winners split the $. If there's interest, I'll put up another thread and get a paypal started.

I need to get into some other active stuff besides weights. I want to train less *gasp* 3-4 days a week in an upper lower or push pull legs split. I don't know why but I've been thinking about a triathlon. I don't run or swim and only casually ride a bike There's a rock climbing place by me in Glendale heights too, which id like to check out. That would be something good for cold weather and general fun.

what else are you guys into besides running or weights?

I try to ride trails whenever I can, which lately has been seldom also given the weather. I want to start playing hoops again but whenever I go I'm the only white guy so automatically a NOPE.
I have thought about crossfit seeing that I know the owner over at crossfit Alpha dog but I don't think I would all the jerkyness and lack of form

I ride the prarie path and great western trails a lot in decent weather. ain't bout that life in winter though.

I respect the elite athletes in the crossfit stuff, and it's great for a lot of people in the sense of group exercise and having a supportive community. As someone who isn't a noob to a weight room, I'm with you on the form. Don't want to end up in snap city. Not worth getting hurt any more

Back to another 90 challenge like the one I did last year. I'm pretty much back at square one, not quite as bad though. My diet and exorcise really went down the shitter after the wedding. I'm excited to get back. If I hit the same weight I did in the last challenge I will be pretty happy with my self.

I also let the gym disappear after my wedding and am so pissed, but now been back bang'n and clang'n for a few weeks and already feel better but nowhere as strong as I was.

I continued running but stopped lifting due to a pinched nerve in my neck. Stopped for about 4 weeks and strength definitely decreased. I was able to do at least 4-5 pullups, now I can't do 1.

Havn't posted in here in a while.

Not much new same 3 routine rotation up to 184#'s got 2 months to go little less actually and ill be heading back to the states.

Looks like I wont hit that 190# mark but still benching 315# on flat and decline now.

Need to pick up my running some more since October I've been doing way less.

Damn you Holidays. Yup better start running again.

im stuck between 218 and 215 i did run a mile in under 8
:1/2 minutes yesterday, havent done that in years just need to stay focused

Yeah, my fastest pace was 8:50. Been working on speed work because I generally maintain a 10min pace.

Setup all my gear to run this morning, alarm went off and I rolled over. Maybe this weekend.

Down 7lbs first week. Not the 12 of last year but I am 5 lbs lighter than I was then. It will be a long road back to where I was but hopefully I have learned enough from last year to not make the same mistakes.

Ive been running consistently since November. Lately, been trying to do some speed work. I rarely use a treadmill, but started using it to run at a faster speed (6mph +) until im gassed, walk, then do it again.

Before, a comfortable pace was 10:00-10:20. I need to rack up the mileage now with the half marathon in April approaching.

Ill start up again a short run (2-3 miles) a medium run (4-5) and a long run (7+) each week as I get closer to the half marathon. My long runs will be a mile longer each weekend.

My longest run to date was in November at 10 miles.

great to see your progress! excited to see how you feel after your first half.

are you running it with anyone?? that's the only thing i wish i had when i did my first was someone along side me.

i'll be running it, so if you want someone to help keep ya going and keep a pace, let me know! i love running with people during their first big "races".

just got home from the gym. some dude wearing a speedinc shirt was there. anyone in here go to the planet fitness in bloomingdale?

Thanks! Yes, running it with 2 friends. Their first half marathons also.

I was apprehensive running with someone at the 15k, but it actually pushed us to keep a good pace.
