exercise burns calories. burn more calories than you take in, lose weight. It's that simple.

I know this because I've done it. When I lost a decent amount of weight, I was still eating large quantities of food but I cut out the fast food/soda.

Cardio is weak. People do cardio for 30 minutes and burn what, 500 calories at most??? And that's if it is a VERY INTENSE cardio work out, that's like 4 cookies, big deal. You burn that much doing weight training, and the weight training effects last days after you've stopped working out. The building of muscle cost a lot of calories.

Well obviously, so why do people spend all this time doing cardio when it barely burns any calories and increases ones appetite.

dr connelly who wrote body Rx
http://www.bodyrx.com/about_connelly.htm

was all about diet and lifting - no cardio. he broke it up into 6 weeks. it was all about limiting and cutting carbs. some were red, yellow and green. also spoke of high fiber intake.

he mentioned " traffic cops" inside your body and how you want the protein to be let in and the carbs and fat turned away.

i will go home and re-read some items.

charles poliquin is not a fan of cardio either. big chuck doesnt mess around.
check tnation and his calve workout..........killer.

Did the carb thing for 1 week and lost 10 lbs, which kick started my diet. I've lost a total of 25lbs now, trying to get to 155. Was at 196, currently at 171.

I dunno. Did you ask anybody before you decided to start working out? Get a gym membership and do weights. If you want, I'll go with you for a week to show you what to do, to get you started.

treadmill is better than nothing. wieghts are definitely the way to go. swimming is an "exercise" and its good for flattening the love handles.

you dont see too many fat guys playing basketball do you ? running and walking is a good exercise to stay active.

but
you exert more energy when lifting.

ever think that maybe metabolism has something to do with this ?
my brother in law eats out every meal of the day and doesnt work out any more and is probably 170lbs

i eat tuna, chicken, egg whites steak and brown rice and hit the weights for a month and lose may be 2-4 lbs.

german body comp helps utilize lower weights and higher reps.
this will burn fat.

if not, treadmill, elliptical and bike is good enough to stay active and set you up for hitting the weights.

its easier to get into more activity when you are already doing "some"

There was a study done by JAMA. They followed a people that did only cardio work outs, and after 1 year, the majority of these people actually GAINED WEIGHT.

A lot has to do with sedentary life style also. At my work, I don't get to sit down, EVER. We don't even have a chair to sit on. I did some research, and this is good for an extra 800 calories burned per day compared to someone that sits on their ass at work. And yeah, metabolism has a lot to do with it. Weight training increases ones metabolism a TON.
