3rd string QB, Tyler Bray, re-signs with the Bears. He has 5 years under Nagy and experience with Cordarrelle Patterson. Helps the continuity in the QB room and gives Patterson a buddy.

Browns just wiped out the depth on the Bears O Line.

First they signed Kush and now Bryan Witzmann. Bears will need to find some depth replacements.

NFL is changing the starting teams for this year. Instead of SuperBowl champ N.E. getting the nod, the Bears/Packers game will be the Thursday night league kickoff. That game is going to get RATINGS.

N.E. is moved to Sunday night.

Quote:
As part of the celebration of its 100th season, the NFL will have the Packers play at the Bears in the Thursday night kickoff game Sept. 5, the Associated Press reports.

Traditionally, the Super Bowl champion is the home team for the prime-time opener, but the league wants to salute historic rivalries in 2019. No rivalry fits better than Chicago vs. Green Bay. The teams have met 200 times since 1921, when the Bears were the Chicago Staleys. Green Bay leads the series 97-95-6 in the regular season, with the clubs splitting two postseason meetings.

Staging the game at Soldier Field — even if it is a modernized version of the stadium — adds to the theme.

New England instead will open at home in the prime-time game Sunday night, Sept. 8. The opponent has not yet been determined.

I think the Howard trade is stupid, and I am 100% against it!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just because the guy wasn't used correctly, doesn't mean you give him away for a bad pick

He doesn't fit in the offense, might as well take a shot at something in the late round.

I agree completely, didn't fit the plan.
You use the talent you already have, you can still be run & gun, with a talent like Howard,
maybe you change your agenda a touch and pound him a little more than you normally would.
They gave him away with nothing coming back

He was given away when they signed Davis. At least they got something for him in a way.

6th, maybe (probably) a 5th. Howard was originally a 5th round pick.

Hopefully, Pace can get a similar talent. He's good in the middle rounds.

It's a good trade for Philly. They need an RB badly.

The RB class this draft is deep, so there's hope. With the position being so devalued, there should definitely be talent in the later rounds for the Bears.

I was really hoping for a 5th this year, but hey, better than nothing I guess.

You're not going to move your offense around for one running back. MAYBE if it was an AP in his prime or Barkley, but Jordan Howard type of talent can be found in the middle rounds of the draft all day. He wasn't that dynamic to necessitate moving pieces around to keep him. Howard was drafted to fit in Fox's/Gase's offense. He was more of a liability in Nagy's offense because he couldn't catch the ball all that well, and wasn't a dual threat like Nagy's offense demands.

I'm wondering who the Bears are going to draft at the RB spot in the 2nd (if they move up), 3rd or 4th round?

Miles Sanders?

Darrell Henderson?

Ryquell Armstead?

Josh Jacobs? 4.6 combine speed might drop him into the late 2nd?

It's looking like the Bears will take an RB with one of their first picks this year. They have talked with at least 10 of the draft RB prospects already. Trading Howard made this position #1 in need.

I expect the Bears first pick will be an RB.

What do you guys think? Any other positions as critical?

Just a reminder as we get closer to the draft.

Bears #1 draft pick is... half of Khalil Mack. Next year we draft the other half.

Good pick, Pace!

Bears would have picked at #24 this year. Thanks John Gruden!

Bears re-sign DE Aaron Lynch for a one year deal.

He's still only 26 years old!

Thats funny, cause he went 20 for 26 and averaged 7.3 yards per reception. Only caught 76.9% of his pass attempts.

Terrible pass catcher.

For reference, Cohen caught 71 for 91 and averaged 10.2 yards per reception which was 78% of his attempts.

Just like with rushing, if you give Howard volume, his YPC or YPR would go up.

Philly is going to love him.

That's a tough comparison to make, because Cohen was split out as a wideout a lot of the times too, whereas Howard was mostly catching in the flat or getting dump off passes. This is just speculation, but I think the volume for passes Howard's way wasn't high because Nagy and/or Trubisky didn't trust him to catch the ball in contested situations or on more difficult routes.

Hell, when he was coming out of college, his scouting report mentioned that an area of improvement was catching the ball.

Quote:
As a receiver Howard is adequate, but can definitely use work on his routes and understanding of how to separate from man coverage. He just doesn’t possess the explosive, shifty feet to consistently create ideal throwing windows for his quarterback, but get Howard moving downfield in the screen game with a full head of steam and see how many defenders want to take him on.

I am not knocking Howard, he's just not the right fit for Nagy's style of offense, plain and simple. Philly I'm sure will love him. He's a great back, and give him the rock 20+ times a game, and he'll reward you with tough yards and good numbers.

Nagy's offense doesn't afford that many stretch, zone, or inside tackle runs. The Bears goal is for exotic looks, where anyone on the field can catch or run the ball at any moment. When Howard is in the game, you could almost completely factor him out of the passing game, making the offense more one-dimensional. Obviously he can still pass block, BUT that takes a receiver off the table for Trubisky. Plenty of backs in the draft and in FA that will give you 90% of what Howard could do running the ball, but MUCH more ability to catch the ball.

I think pass catching is the excuse. I think the real reason was the one Nagy mentioned in a press conference. "He wants his guys to run where they are supposed to be". Nice way of saying Howard didn't understand the plays.
