Eat fries a few times a week? This study says you're digging your own grave.

Compared with adults who did not consume fried potatoes - such as french fries, potato chips, or hash browns - those who ate around two to three portions of fried potatoes each week were found to have double the risk of premature death, and eating more than three portions further increased this risk.

However, the researchers found no link between the intake of unfried potatoes and early death risk.

Bullshit study in regards to how valid it is to the general population. Take it with a grain of salt...or a side of French fries

"Fried potato consumption may be an indicator of a less healthy (Western) dietary pattern which is associated with increased mortality," said Larsson, who also conducted a study of potato consumption. Her study did not find an increased risk of cardiovascular disease linked to eating potatoes."

This is the most relevant point, to my mind. If you're eating fries there's a good chance you're also having a cheeseburger and a soda with them. If they didn't control for this factor and other lifestyle differences the study is just about worthless.

It also conflates frying with deep-frying, which is an important part of this study. Not to mention that:

" National Potato Council CEO John Keeling said the "study isn't relevant to the general population" since the data was collected for an osteoarthritis study and includes only patients with arthritis."
