So awhile back (just over a year now I believe) I was feeling like total crap and the doctor checked my levels and they were crazy low, like the levels belonged to a 90 year old man.....

So my doctor prescribed me Androgel 1.62 and I tried that for six months, and then had my blood checked again and the levels were still really low. So he sent me to a urologist to see what he thought and he wanted me to try Axiron for 6 months, which I did and when I got my most recent blood work done my levels are actually lower now.

I went to the doctor again and he wants me to keep trying the Axiron for 6 more months, but I feel zero difference and at this point think I need injections but the doctor is still saying to keep trying these gels.

Has anyone heard of the gels not working well before? I guess I'm just surprised the numbers haven't at least gone up some for me with them.

So now I'm debating going to one of those anti-aging low-t type places but all of them so far seem to be not covered by insurance, and you have to go to them once a week to get injections. I was hoping the doctor could prescribe it to me so I could just do it myself, so I don't know if I should just go for another opinion someplace. or just stick it out another 6 months with the gel stuff or what....

Just seeing if anyone else has done this or had any suggestions....

I have not done trt but there are places out there that you can mail your results and they will send you your script for injections, I doubt they will be covered by insurance, most of these places are loopholes for weight lifters to get test injections legally, sounds like you really need it good luck

From what I've read the testosterone itself isn't actually that expensive, so I wouldn't be opposed to it really as long as we're not talking $500 a month or something crazy. HAHA

I'll have to look into those places, do you know of any off the top of your head I can show my results to?

The gels aren't nearly as effective as injections. Are you handling this through your GP or Urologist now? It may be worth looking around for a quality endocrinologist. The problem with the anti-aging clinics is that they aren't covered by insurance. And test injections and GH adds up fast. And the problem with TRT right now is that a lot of doctors don't see eye-to-eye as to what constitutes the need for TRT injections in terms of your age and test levels. I know of a few members on here who have had good luck getting a quality TRT regimen through their doc, so maybe one of them will shoot you a name to refer you to. But other than that, the majority of the anti-aging clinics seem to be for those who are more well-off monetarily. Which is one reason why so many people are willing to go the black market route.

Kind of a mix between doctors. The Urologist wanted me to start the Axiron treatments instead of the Androgel, and when I had the blood work done recently the GP looked at the results and said to keep using the Axiron just to see....

If I remember correctly, the "normal" range was between like 270 and 1070 and mine was like 140. The blood was also taken at 8am and test production is supposedly at it's highest between 7 and 9 in the morning.

Hopefully someone can chime in or PM me their doctors information, I wouldn't mind getting another opinion since these damn gels don't seem to do anything for me and my doctors just want me to keep using them.

How old are you? Yeah the ranges vary a little between tests but I would think that 140 is definitely low enough to get you injections. Do you have a physical copy of your labs/blood-work? I would get that if you don't already. Could be useful if you end up going to another doc, though they may want to test you again anyway.

I'm an old ass compared to most of the forums I'm guessing at 40 years old... Yeah I have copies of all the bloodwork still but figured they may want to do their own as well but figure it wouldn't hurt to have a copy as well.

one of my buddies says the gels are bullshit, and that they advertise adntogel on espe, whice to him means it doesnt work. LOL.

but says to go see an endocrinologist and they will most likely put you on a good TRT.

injections are where its at, but most doctors, if you go in asking for them they think you are going for the wrong reasons. its a double edges sword for sure.

That is the biggest thing I'm worried about, that the doctor is going to think I'm trying to tell him what to do or something, when in reality I've already tried both the top gel brands I've heard of with no results....

I tested in the mid 300s as a 31 year old.
2 years of high doses of Vitamin D3 helped me gain 100pts on the Test results @ around 460.

It's at least a start. I was taking 5, 5000 IU pills a day.

It varies Dr to Dr. My Dr would not prescribe anything where as a guy that a friend knew at the gym, tested @ 400 ( 28 yrs old ) and his Dr immediately put him on low dose injections to get his levels closer to 800.

go figure

Well I went to the doctor today and he's recommending me to see an Endocrinologist that he knows, I just dont know the best way to word everything with this guy, without sounding like I just want to be juicing or something stupid....

Hope he's able to see me pretty quickly, unless anyone has a doc more likely to prescribe injections....

Been awhile since I updated this.....

Went through a ton of tests, including MRI's on the brain to make sure there wasn't a tumor on the pituitary gland. Everything checked out okay, so they put me on Androgel again at double the dosage...

Its been a month on the double dosage and I still feel no difference, they're having me take another blood test so I can check the levels in the next week.

If the numbers are still low I'm going to ask for injections instead, and if they say they want to stick with one of these gels I'll be going to another doctor.

my friend's brother was put on the gel a few years ago.
he's a heavy set guy but noticed differences almost immediately.

he cleaned up his diet for a while and dropped like 50lbs.
he also was horny all the time and said he felt like he could break through brick walls.

keep us posted.
