Finally University of North Dakota gets a new Nickname AND NCAA title #8!!

University of North Dakota today finalized the new nickname for the school.

Fighting Hawks.

The best part about this is it still keeps part of the old nickname which used to be Fighting Sioux.

What is EVEN better is rumors are flying that Hawk is actually an acronym.

So once upon a time long long ago them politically correct NCAA bastards decided the Sioux nickname needed to be banned.

After many many years of lawsuits and bullshit drama UND Finally picked a new name.

Can take away the name but cant take away the tradition!

College Hockey News: Team of the Week: North Dakota

UND hockey kicking ass right now. Last 4 games they have out scored the opponent 15-1 along with a triple shutout from goaltender Cam Johnson.

Took down Denver 5-1 then 4-0 2 weeks ago then wiped out Duluth 3-0 and 3-0 last weekend.

Duluth had UND listed as F'N Hawks last weekend on the score board when UND shut them out 2 nights in a row in their own arena.

I guess the other team can call them F'N Hawks when they throw 78 shots at them and still get out scored 6-ZIP on the weekend.

Hell of a way to head into the Holiday Break riding a 16-2-2 record.

This isn't the first time a college has changed their mascot. Remember U of I? Chief illiniwek long since been gone. They didn't give the fig FU like apparently was done here. So kudos to them.

Congrats to UND goaltender Cam Johnson for setting school record of 4 shutouts in a ROW!!!!

MEN'S HOCKEY: UND beats Alabama Huntsville 1-0 | Grand Forks Herald

ND goalie Cam Johnson broke a 62-year-old school scoreless streak record on Friday night in leading the Fighting Hawks to a 1-0 nonconfrence win over Alabama Huntsville at Ralph Engelstad Arena.

The previous record for a scoreless streak by a UND goalie was 249 minutes, 41 seconds set by Spike Schultz in 1954.

Johnson's scoreless streak now is at 278:38. It also was his fourth consecutive shutout as UND improved to 17-2-2.


Alabama even got awarded a penalty shot in the game tonight.

Ohh and UND is missing 2 of their best players right now playing in the World Junior Tournament.
