Agreed. As long as the Ricketts are the owners and Epstein is President of the Cubs. The sux will never be better.

I count at least 10 here

Or 6, if that's not good enough. Or do I need to pull out baby pictures in my Cubs getup?

I mean, if you're calling me a 3 year bandwagon fan, is it that much better than a bandwagon fan from 13 years ago?

Cubs are trading for Cole Hamels

They definitely need more starting pitching since Darvish is always hurt this year

Cole is a big gamble. He's had a pretty shit year...you can skew stats one way or the other, but one stat that looked slightly promising was that his home ERA (in Texas) was around the 4-5 mark, whereas away it was in the 2's. A change of venue may be able to help that hopefully?

And not even just Darvish being hurt...Chatwood has been....poor...and Mike Montgomery, who the Cubs hoped would be able to transition into being a viable rotation guy, hasn't panned out. Sending Montgomery back to the pen to do his middle reliever/setup duties could hopefully help out quite a bit. Cubs have depleted their farm system, so unless they want to start breaking up their core guys (which they don't) it was just going to be difficult to get anyone worthwhile in trade, although they did buy Hamels low.

Yea no chance he's gonna be anything close to Verlnder! I'd bet he'll be closer to what James Shields is...lol

Really disappointed with Cubs starting pitching this year except for obviously Lester. Hendricks and Q aren't what the used to be. Chatwood totally BLOWS, but it seems like the team usually wins when he takes the mound. And fuck that bum Yu! Really wish we would have just paid Arrieta...

I like Arrieta, although he was a bit of a headcase. He's a good pitcher, but he's not been the same since his Cy Young. He'd still be a #2 or 3 on the Cubs (he's been about the same in efficiency/stats this year with Quintana), but he's a mid-3's ERA guy now with a shit WHIP, which is fine, but not an ace or anything. Arrieta is also not getting the run support the Cubs pitchers are.

The Cubs offered Arrieta a contract extension when he was still signed with them. Offered him more than what he’s making now with the Phillies. Lol. Arrieta and his agent gambled and lost. They were greedy.

No doubt he's had some great performances, and is capable of some lights out pitching. He had some issues with shit getting inside his head and cracking under some pressure. I mean, in comparison to say Lester, he's not that bad, but he definitely had his quirks

Yeah, I'm not sure he's going to pitch the rest of the season for whatever reason, at least the trade for Hamels sort of indicates that...

I'll take what Arrieta is doing this season over Yu. He's still a very solid #2/3 pitcher and we know he's solid in big playoff games and wont fold under pressure. Wasn't claiming him to be an ace anymore.

And are you kidding about calling Arrieta a headcase?! LMAO! What do you consider Yu? Now THAT guy is a total mental midget and is actually a headcase.

I know they offered him an extension, but after the season was over I still think they could have worked it out with him and got him for less than Yu. Instead, they put all their eggs in the Yu signing and told Arrieta if it didn't work out with Yu they would then want him back. Maybe Yu will come back and be a stud, hopefully!

I think Yu will come around if he gets healthy. And it’s a lot pressure for the first year of a big contract.

Idk but I still think Arrietas agent is a greedy asshole and Jake listened to him. They wanted to test the FA market and try to get the most money they could. He signed for 3 years with the Phillies after spring training started. He wont be that good in 3 years if he comes back to the Cubs.

You know who his agent is, right? Of course he was gonna try to cash in since he's never had a big payday. This Phillies contract was it!

In 3 years he'll be right around 35 years old I think so I agree I'm not interested at that age.

My only complaint is he only got thru 5 innings. Pitch count was already around 100 pitches. But he did get himself out of some jambs which was good to see.
